DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    1979 GS 1000e air box/carb removal

Whether it will fit will be determined by which "L" donated the box. :-k There was a chain-driven 1000L and a shaft-driven 1000GL, but the side cover for the GL only showed "GS 1000L". If your box is from a 1979 "L", it will probably fit. Any other year, it won't, because the carbs changed...

    gear position sensor

I was about to say that I thought that the 1000E might have it, but I checked the fiche, and it does NOT. :-k I thought that was one of the upgrade features of the "E". I have been under the impression that virtually all GSes had a gear position indicator, but now I find that the chain-driven...

    A 650 vs a 850

Don't worry, there are even more differences, not counting the obvious difference in output (shaft vs. chain). .

    Free Rotella for the cage

I'll have to check that out. I use the 5w-40 in the blue jug in the bikes, but both cages need 5w-30, so I have been using Mobil1. .

    A 650 vs a 850

I don't know if there was actually an '84 GS650, but there was sort of a FIFTH GS650. :-k Although it did not carry the "GS" label, it was based on the GS650. The XN85 was fuel injected, turbocharged, mono-shocked and had the first production 16" front wheel on a bike in the US. It was made...

Holes in my Mufflers..Recomentations on what to replace with

Those holes are not the drain holes. The drain holes are closer to the swingarm pivot and would be smooth and round. Those are all a bit larger and irregular. If your ears are sensitive, you might hear the exhaust escaping, but shouldn't be too much louder. I don't have any experience with...

Holes in my Mufflers..Recomentations on what to replace with

Where are your "small holes"? If they are at the bottom, right at the beginning of the muffler area, and about 2-3mm in size, they belong there. :-k Those are drain holes for condensation. If you have holes anywhere else, it would depend on how much you want to spend and how tolerant you are...

But it's on the wrong side of the bike. :-\\\ .

    Trailer math

I would leave the engine guards on. If anything, trim your size 14s back to 11s or so. IF you happen to go down while moving, the guards <might> bend back a bit, maybe even crack the valve cover. Replacing a valve cover is easy and not all that expensive. If you DON'T have the guards in...

    GS1100E Oil Pressure Light

The first thing I would suggest is to raise your idle speed to the recommended 1000-1100 RPM. There is not much pressure in the system at any time. The switch is based on flow, not pressure. .

    Trailer math

Talk to virtually ANY Goldwing owner, they will tell you "it's OK to pull a trailer up to 3-400 pounds". Yeah, most of them HAVE pulled a trailer and survived. So have I. The problem is that the owner's manual specifically recommends AGAINST towing a trailer or mounting a sidecar. Many, MANY...

Date codes don't matter on those tires. :-k They are Kenda Challengers and need to be replaced IMMEDIATELY. .

    Sidecar on the T120

I was going to suggest looking into a leading-link fork, but LAB3 beat me to it. Just in case you need a little bit of reading on the subject and some hints to manufacturers who might (not) still offer them...

    Trailer math

When you get a chance, I would like to see a picture of that statement. Every motorcycle manual I have ever seen said that it was NOT permitted to pull a trailer. Yes, many of us have done it and gotten away with it, but it is not a factory-sanctioned event. The first (and so far only)...

    Trailer math

That's quite impressive. You DO need to be concerned a bit about weight. However, you need to be even more concerned about WIDTH. Anything using the front axle of a truck is going to be nearly 6 feet wide, which is WAY too much. Try to keep it to no more than 4 feet, if possible. My...

    Trailer math

I will agree that a longer tongue is beneficial, but a "standard" trailer, like the frame you would find at Harbor Fright will work just fine. If you make any modifications to that trailer, it would be to narrow it down about 6 inches. A car-top carrier on that frame is about as basic and...

    Engine oil leak

It would also be nice to know exactly what bike is being discussed. By the picture, it appears to be a 4-cylinder Suzuki, 1982 or newer. Yeah, your signature mentions an '82 650, but there are also other bikes, and this just might also be an unmentioned project that just rolled in, and is not...

How do I get the final drive thing off the rim? And the bearings?

Yeah, the tabs will hold the brake bolts, ... if you use them. :-k I replaced my bolts with stainless socket-head bolts, which are round on the outside, so tabs would not work. .

Valve Stem Seals Won't Come Out - Edit: they came out

Be careful with any impact around the seals and guides. It doesn't take much to snap a guide. .
