A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Degree the cams?

I am wondering if any of you tack weld the sprocket to the cam once you are done degreeing? I have heard of a couple people that do, just wondering if it is common or necessary. If you do, do you remove the cams to do it or weld it in place trying to keep spatter out of the motor?

what did you wrench on today??

Sorted the muffler mount, got the kill box mounted and functional, and fired up with the new carbs. Started right up and idles well. Haven't synced them yet. I did learn a new term with the RS carbs. "Slide Rattle" At certain off-idle rpms they make a very loud rattling noise from the pods...

Careberautor maintenance - Where to get o-rings and such

These carbs sat for 4 months after a cleaning. The bowls were emptied until the engine died. Either drain the bowls completely, or fill with non-ethanol gas.

what did you wrench on today??

Test fitted the Delkevic header and installed the RS carbs and push-pull throttle. Need to weld a tab on to hang the pipe since the footpegs aren't exactly stock. Next I will sort out the wiring for the NextUp kill box.

1100 Katana restomod with 1230 engine

I remember the KZ900 wobble in high speed corners. Still trying to sort a high speed (120 mph) wobble through the traps on my 1100e dragbike with Bandit forks and swingarm through the traps. A bit of rear brake calms it but maybe a damper will help, or tightening the head bearings.

Sound of a Delkevic 4:1 - A few people asked for this

An incredible deal at $325 shipped compared to what else is out there. Stainless vs. not is a clincher. I got one for my 1100e. They pretty much cover the entire GS range now with the same pipe and different mounting brackets

    1980 GS 1000G - Low compression

Did you have the throttle fully open when checking? Makes a huge difference. Also, many bikes that have been sitting will go up 20-40 points after a couple hundred miles...

Thoughts on using long air runners in place of pod filters

I have 2 GS bikes with Pods and a Dynojet kit, and 2 with stock airbox. All run really well. The airbox bikes are a bit smoother throughout the range, the pod bikes have a bit better top end and a gnarly sound. Your choice, but don't try pods without the proper jet needles.

    Bracket racing 2020

Nope, single stage lockup set up pretty soft. And Throwing is more like slipping through first gear. It is a 1260 with bigger intakes and some port work, but stock cams because I wanted to get enough seat time to get comfortable before going crazy. Maybe if the budget allows later I will upgrade...

    Rebuilt carbs #1 not firing.

I didn't see mentioned, many times flooding carbs is due to the o-rings on the float needle seat. That gives gas a direct bypass of the needle....

Blowing the Signals fuse - GS1100G

Mine did this exact thing. Turned out to be the hot terminal of one horn too close to the mounting bracket. On occasion it would ground out. Sometimes days between events.

what did you wrench on today??

Bike Porn Bike Porn I just doubled the value of my bike :) RS38. I have never had such shiny stuff.... For the 1260 dragbike. If they are too big I will just put bigger cams in.

    Bracket racing 2020

After a crazy year in 2019 where I sold my house and moved everything I own, the rest of my remaining years are mine. Dusting off the '80 GS1260 and going to run as much of the bike season as I can. T&T starts March 11. Ordered a NextUp shift controller, new Delkevic header, and RS38 carbs...

Are GS1100E bikes more common than GS1100G bikes?

I am contemplating doing a valve adjustment on my C14. It makes the 8V GS look trivial. After you take off all the fairings, you remove the valve cover and check clearances. Then you remove both cams and the lifter buckets to get to the shims. Replace shims as needed and reassemble. Book time is...

    Buy Back Program

I bought a car located in Texas in November. Shipping with Montway to Washington state was WAY less than the plane ticket and 4 days of missed work, about $900. Once picked up it was 4 days to cover 2200 miles and deliver to my door, no damage, not even very dirty when it arrived. I also had a...
