A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Simple headlamp relay with start cutout

Mine works great. 2 parts and no fuss. Yamaha used that design for years with no problems. I should add buzzers, lights and an LCD display for current flow and voltage to it.

    Exhaust from 78 GS1000 fit 81 GS850?

If a header has 4 loose pipes it should be OK. Marshall is like that.

    V & h 4-1

It comes in a box you could check as luggage. Not that heavy. The header pipe is rather bulky.

    GS-650 Katana, Persistent Misfire

Silicone turns to jelly in the presence of gasoline. If you sealed the o ring on the intake boot with it the fix won't last. Unless I'm reading it wrong you need new intake boots and o rings. Nice bike BTW, I would sell both mine for a shaft drive Katana.

    GS650 power problems

If it had a kickstart the battery would be a non issue but 7aH is half what it calls for. Can you put a second 7aH battery on it in parallel?

79' 1000S self cancelling bypass mod

I'll make up a test jig to work with them. I converted my GS1000G to GS650 controls and manual operation but I can duplicate it quite easily.

79' 1000S self cancelling bypass mod

There are two approaches to this problem. 1. Determine the fault and develop a fix. 2. Replace it with a simple but better solution. If I get examples of bad units I'm willing to do one or the other.

Build this Build this http://www.google.com/patents/US4972174 I've got a lot going on right now but I would like to make one of these on a breadboard prototype. If I can create one from scratch I'll provide plans to everyone so it can be made. No miminum orders or committments from anyone...

    How's the CB1100 selling?

The price is a non starter for most people since it can't run with rocket bikes for the same money. At 6 grand they would be on every street.

    GS650 power problems

The 650G came with a 14aH battery, the 650E a 12 aH model. I think your battery is not only too small but probably defective. Do you still have a battery box to mount a proper battery or has it been gutted of the box, airbox and associated filter? ++1 on the charging system being suspect...

79' 1000S self cancelling bypass mod

Should be easy to calculate. I think the ratio is 2.6 to one on the speedo drive and they should be square waves with a constant ratio of on to off. I would consider replacing the reed switch since like everything else it's a 30 year old mechanical object. Radio shack used to sell them at one...

79' 1000S self cancelling bypass mod

At high speeds the signal frequency could get rather hectic. If the timing circuit capacitors were old and dried out it could wreak havoc with the circuit. I think these devices are in need of a re-cap. In audio systems replacing 30 year old caps not only yields better sound but prevents...

Simple headlamp relay with start cutout

"If the device is FET based vs (SCR or Bipolar device)based, the likelihood is 10:1 that the FET will fail in the ON position so running you battery down is the biggest issue for a failed solid state headlamp relay." Or you could just turn the key off and not run the battery down. 1 diode...

Simple headlamp relay with start cutout

Hook the yellow to any stator lead, I used one of those wires that used to go the the handle bar switch ( it stills does ) and I got a relay from a Yamaha 400 that did the same thing on the 400 special. The fun thing is the light stays on for a bit after the engine stops until the charge goes...
