A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil leak from output shaft GS1100G

X2 I've seen this happen twice myself. I suggest you drain the secondary oil, if you haven't done so already, and have a look. I bought an 1100G several yrs ago that made a huge racket. I drained the secondary oil and it looked like metalflake coal black paint. The bearings were shot and the...

    Brake light upgrade

I bought some red LED light strips on ebay from China (a couple of $ each) and mounted them around the inside of my rear signals and tail light. They all come on with the brake light. They show red even though the lens' are amber. Overall pretty effective and definitely cheap. I turned my front...

    Distance between GS1100G fork legs?

I found an old tubular fork brace and I want to determine if it'll fit my '83 1100G. Does anyone know what the distance is between the fork legs where the fender mounts? I don't want to pull the front wheel and fender off to find out, if I don't have to. Thanks in advance, Willie

    Rust Treatment

I've wondered if sealing with fiberglass resin would be an effective and relatively inexpensive treatment. It would certainly prevent any moisture or oxygen from getting to the surface.

    Pin Striping virgin!

The same applies to me. I even paid for lessons and bought a bunch of books on it. The only thing I got out of it was an appreciation for it when its done well. I guess its like anything, practice makes perfect. Personally, I'd stick with tape. ;) (Pun intended)

    GS Sightings

If you were the GS rider I saw crossing the bridge on Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport, TN this morning about 7:15, I give you ALOT of credit! It was 21 degrees at the bank and there were icy spots on the road. I hope you made it to your destination safely.

    Kawasaki Concours - thoughts on

Couldn't agree more. I traded a cherry SV650 and some cash for one a few yrs ago. Took me about 20 miles on I-85 to realize I made a BIG mistake. Tried it for another 1k before finally getting rid of it for the same reasons TKent listed. Live and learn. Willie

How do you remove a piston from a caliper?

Yeah. Impressive and diverse cast including the badass that played the bad guy in the 1st Highlander and Billy Vera, an excellent musician who I've been lucky enough to hear in concert and talk afterwards with. Outa curiosity, have you seen Galaxy Quest? Another classic that didn't get the...

How do you remove a piston from a caliper?

Absolutely will and I really appreciate the warning/advice. My plan was to wrap the caliper half tighly in a rag to prevent such an event. Thanks man. BTW, love your signature. I'm a big fan of Buckaroo. I bet I've seen that movie a dozen times and enjoyed it just as much as the 1st time every...

How do you remove a piston from a caliper?

I've no doubt that it would. PITA packing it with grease though. I'll give the other ideas involving pushing the piston back in and trying compressed air 1st. I'll let everyone know what the results are. Willie

How do you remove a piston from a caliper?

Although I like your idea re: pushing the piston back in to the caliper, cleaning the crud from the bore and pressurinzing it out, I was worried about losing the headway I'd made by getting it out as far as I did before the other piston popped out. At this point I doubt it would take any more...

How do you remove a piston from a caliper?

Another great method. Unfortunately, if memory serves me right, for once, the bleeder nipple is on the side opposite the side with the brake line port. And, as my luck would have it, the side that is stuck is the side with the brake line port. I'll have to wait until I return to work on Wed to...

How do you remove a piston from a caliper?

It is indeed the kind that bolts together. I was thinking of trying the very same idea. That oughta work. Wizard's idea would work also, thanks ;) if I want to wait until I replace the seals in the half that I was able to remove the piston from. Then I could reinstall that piston, limit its...

How do you remove a piston from a caliper?

Thanks guys. Hard to believe but the piston doesn't have a groove or lip to get a screwdriver on to pry. Its also not out enough to getta grip with a visegrips. The other piston was in good shape and NOS parts for a '77 RD400 are tough to find. I tried compressed air before but it didn't budge...

How do you remove a piston from a caliper?

I was able to get the piston out of one side (half) of the caliper by using the master cylinder to pump brake fluid in to the caliper. But, naturally, once one side came out, the other no longer had any pressure behind it. I have split the caliper in half so I'm left with the one side that has a...
