DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Another name I remember, good to see you still here too! Kat's going well, currently on commuter duties until I sort the 450 out but it does make for a fun commute

    1982 GS450 - No Spark

Actually I have found a bunch of the Chinese ones on AliExpress now, starting at less than $AU40! Would just like to know if I can swap the modules over to the GS450 Dyna plate though, because that way I know everything's aligned correctly to start with the timing close. I've read a few posts...

    1982 GS450 - No Spark

Well no luck I'm afraid! On the plus side, I know my ignitor is now dead. Both coils are fine, signal generator is fine, ignitor is getting 12V and is grounded, so the only possible situation is that it has failed. I don't know any way to test the ignitor itself, and given these are potted...

    I'm back

Cheers Dan! You were actually in my mind the other week too... front brake parts on the 450 are now NLA and mine's gotten a little grabby so have been thinking about the good ol' Salty Monk upgrade again.

Glad you find this one interesting :D Nessism is still around too and helping on my ignition thread, so good to see these folk still around!

    1982 GS450 - No Spark

Yep I like the price for sure! I can't find any of the China knock off ones on eBay or anything here, but the guy I buy my Cometic stuff off for the Kat sells them and has the Honda versions for $AU130 which is pretty good, so worst case I can get one of those and mount it to the Dyna plate I...

    1982 GS450 - No Spark

Well in a pleasant surprise this morning I discovered I had not thrown out the old Dyna S modules! I have two, both of which I believe have one failed module each. This means I have the correct plate for the 450 along with an incorrect one (I didn't need the full DS3-3C kit second time around)...

    1982 GS450 - No Spark

Unfortunately the 450 ignitor is potted, so not so easy to repair! I attempted to get into the original when it failed during the rebuild but it ended up destroyed. Most likely it was bad technique on my part. Hopefully you'll get something useful out of this all the same. Glad to see you're...

    I'm back

I'll confess I've completely forgotten your first name but I most definitely remember cowboyup, glad to see you're still here too! Aside from the 450's spark issues all good down this way thanks and hope the same for you as well! From memory last time I was on your daughter was learning to ride...

    GS500 electronic ignition into GS400/425?

Sorry for the thread hijack, but have you got any more details on the GS500 swap? Did you have to graft the GS500 connectors onto the GS450 harness or do they use generic plugs/sockets that you can buy easily? I may need to do this on my 82 GS450.

I do recall your screen name actually now that I see it, another one that's hung around, good stuff! I've still seen the names Steve and Salty Monk among others which is great to see too!

    I'm back

Cheers! I managed to find my original rebuild thread which started in 2010, so we were probably on here at the same time but I think I tended to stick to twin threads and so forth.

    1982 GS450 - No Spark

Well alas, 15 years after getting my 450 back on the road and over 100,000kms later, it seems the 44 year old ignitor is likely deceased. Amazingly enough I found my old rebuild thread on here! Pics are all gone but the content is still there... Anyway, I'm 95% certain the issue is the ignitor...

    I'm back

Cheers guys! Nice to be back, not sure how many years I've been away for but good to see some familiar names still around as well. I'll post up a thread in the electrical/ignition forum about the spark issues too.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Nice Darryl, good to see your Kat in the mix and I bet that was a bunch of fun! Thanks for sharing the others too, some nice bikes there indeed!

    I'm back

I'm back again... I used to be on here pretty regularly years ago as "pete" with my 1982 GS450E and my 1984 Katana which I think made it to BOTM once too. Still riding the GS450 to work every day and occasionally on the weekends, and the Katana vice versa. That was until this week as the GS450...
