A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Top 10 Newbie Mistakes

Does this need a Spring 2024 bump? Surely someone out there has invented a whole new Newbie Mistake... One thing I'm going to mention for our influx of spring newbies is to PAY ATTENTION to where you are posting in the forum. Don't just click the first subforum you see and start blathering...

    Battery amp lesson help

As far as getting an amp-hour number, no. The best you can do with a standard multimeter is functional testing using the motorcycle to create a load. Start with a charged battery. Hook up the multimeter DIRECTLY to the battery (use jumpers or clips so you can use your hands, careful about...

HELP! No pressure on brake lever after removing banjo bolt

I'm guessing that you accidentally slurped some air into the master. To get the last of this, you have to remove the lever, loosen a bleeder somewhere or the MC banjo (with a rag around it), and push the piston alllllll the way in with something suitably pokey and blunt that won't scratch the...

Brake return and switch spring locations?

Yup, that looks about right. Don't forget to lube the pivot. It's a very common solution to the complaints "Hey, how come my brake light is on all the time" and "Hey, how come my rear brake smells funny and the rotor is turning blue?"

    White wall

Maybe something old-timey from Coker Tire? https://www.cokertire.com/tires/vehicle-types/motorcycle-bike/16_inch-wide_whitewall-double_whitewall-narrow_whitewall.html But in actual sporty sizes/shapes remotely appropriate for the bike -- nope. This is my current go-to for oddball sizes and...

Yep, you're describing a perfectly normal and healthy amount of crankcase vapor.

    Question about turn signal wiring

Sorry, just noticed that I made a typo: my bike is an '83, a "D" model (not an '82 "Z" model), and AFAIK, all the '83 Suzuki models had front turn signals with running lights. In fact, in that photo above, those signals are the black bodied signals from an '83 1100E; later on I acquired a set of...

    Question about turn signal wiring

Many models had three wire fronts using 1157 bulbs with two filaments; you had running lights using the dimmer filament and brighter signal lights. My '83 GS850G's running lights; OEM signals: In that wiring diagram, B/W is the ground, Gr is the running light wire, and Lg and B are the right...

    clutch switch relocate

Assuming you're on a GS850, which has the little exposed lever down on the right side of the bike, you could easily rig up a rear brake light switch to actuate from that lever on the cases. Or just do what most of us end up doing and bypass the stupid janky unreliable thing.

Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 - Thoughts?

Niiiiiiiiice! Even on this "budget" bike, they really paid attention to ALL the details. That is dead sexy. I'm going to assume those stupid warning stickers on the tank can be easily removed...

    Wheel assembly question

The part number for this O-Ring of Mystery is 09280-65003. In Suzuki's part numbering system, this indicates an ID of 65mm. No idea what thickness it is, or the material. 09280 simply indicates "o-ring". Might that 65mm dimension help you narrow down exactly where it sits? As to the spline...

Installed Progressive front springs on a 1980 450S? How big of a spacer did you need?

The Clymer shop manual (found here: https://gsarchive.bwringer.com/ ) gives the following service limits for the stock fork springs: So they're toast at 496mm, but that doesn't tell you how long they were from the factory, and a few other things you'd need to know to guesstimate a spacer...

    Wheel assembly question

This is what they call a Damn Good Question... meaning I have no idea. I wonder if it's there more as a damper for the driven spline, to keep it from knocking against the wheel hub under load? It doesn't make a lot of sense as a seal to keep water out and/or spline grease in. Sorry, I'm not...

Installed Progressive front springs on a 1980 450S? How big of a spacer did you need?

Yes, you cut spacers to suit once you have them in hand. Nessism's advice is a good place to start. Adjust to taste. The springs will come with a hunk of appropriate PVC. You won't know how long to cut them until you have everything apart, so there's no point in cutting the spacers beforehand...
