A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Please help me understand and select chain and sprockets

Yes, you can cut through the side plates of one link to remove the chain. But since you have the fancy tool all you need to do is grind the head from one pin and use the tool to push the pin out, 'breaking' the chain. Thanks, Joe

Please help me understand and select chain and sprockets

I have seen this chain tool at Cycle gear and it appears identical to the Motion Pro tool except the case is red instead of blue. I was going to link to it in my previous post but saw it was listed at $89.99. I thought I had seen it for much less at the store or in sales emails. So you got it...

Please help me understand and select chain and sprockets

It is really intended to be used to push the pins out to 'break' the chain. I'm sure it could also be used to press the plate onto a master link (either type) and to peen the pins on a rivet-type link. You might have to be a little creative but I'm sure it could be done. For what it's worth, I...

Please help me understand and select chain and sprockets

I agree with the likely 530 chain. I believe the OEM gearing with a 630 chain is 15/42. You need to go with more teeth on the front sprocket with the 530 conversion to keep the diameter similar to the 630 sprocket. The 530 pitch is less than the 630 so 18 teeth is close to the same diameter as a...

Specify a clip-type master link if you don't want to mess with a chain tool. Get a rivet type if you have...

Dirt bikes for me and my and my son

Trevor, Awesome story. I have two things to add. One, I believe riders who learn in the dirt are the best riders. They know how it feels to lose traction, lock up both wheels, and have one or both wheels off the ground. When they get on the street they know how to handle these situations. Two...

    1100E / 1100ES Question

Terse? Not at all. Your answer was perfectly good if the person understood the model designation scheme. I just added a bit for clarity. No offense intended...:) Joe

    1100E / 1100ES Question

Bill, The 'D' in 'ED' refers to the 1983 model year. The 'ES' is actually an 'ESD' The 1982 model was an 'EZ' but there was no 'ESZ' as the so-called 'ES' was a 1983 only model. So Jim is saying you need a 1983 frame as both the 'ED' and 'ESD' had the fairing mount lugs. I hope this helps. Joe

    Installing heated grips

Garth, I would add a relay so you still have power to the grips directly from the battery. Have the relay connected to a switched power source and you'll have everything you want. Thanks, Joe

    JIS (Japanese Issue Screwdrivers)

I bought a set of Hozan JIS screwdrivers a couple years back. They aren't as fancy looking as the Vessel brand but a bit less expensive. They seem to be high quality and server me well. Definitely a worthwhile investment. Thanks, Joe

    Used V-Twin advice

Sci85, When will you be in town? Some of the local guys are heading out for the Dave Davis Memorial Fennimore Rally on Thursday and Friday. I'm heading out for an Appalachian tour Friday as well. You are more than welcome to come by if you'll be in town before Friday. Thanks, Joe

    How do I know....

My '83 did the same thing many years ago. I smoothed out the taper and re-installed but the rotor would push right past the high point of the taper and spin. I took some measurements and wrapped a piece of feeler gauge stock around the taper and tightened to spec. I've never had an issue since...
