A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

engine hadn't been run in 10 years- oil pressure?

Throw some antisieze or wd40 on the valve cover gasket prior to installing. Makes for a super clean and easy removal. You can even reuse it.

    New toy. 1982 Honda 900F

Unlike these GS bikes. I can get more for my hi-miler 1100F than for my mid-miler GS by a significant amount.

    New toy. 1982 Honda 900F

Show off. I remember how you blundered into that bike. Did you ever get a fairing for it?

    New toy. 1982 Honda 900F

It didn't cost him very much, either.

That one is tastefully done. You have to be kidding me.

    New toy. 1982 Honda 900F

As an F purist, I gotta say that beast is pretty ghastly looking! How does it run?

    Damaged cylinder wall?

I have some similar damage to my CB1100F. It runs fine and has decent compression. Try honing it out with a bead hone and check the bore for clearance. If there is a mark still visible from the corrosion, but you can't feel it, you can run it.

    Any fans of 2 strokes?

Loved my rds. 350LC from France was the nicest one I owned.

    Nice 1981 GPz550

I don't recall any GPz bikes of this era that did not have a black chrome finish, at least a bit shinier than that one.

    HF Tire Changer

I have one and use it. The stock jaws and bar will chew up your rims so I modded the jaws and got a No-Mar bar. Lots of info on YouTube about using this changer.

Ball bearings on the floor puzzle

The HF unit needs a little reinforcement (a large washer) where the wheels attach. Mine also loosened. No bearings on the floor yet.

Yes, that photo was taken by Rick Clemson while we were headed up South Grade. You can see me waving at Rick. That's Bikecliff behind me.

    Palomar Mountain ... San Diego...

Yea, that East Grade is in need of a serious repave. I think they leave it it that way to slow the bikes down. 78 is nicely paved for all the motor homes and grannies.

    felt washer

    Oh, darn. Didn't realize.

    best way to remove carberator

I just loosen the engine mount bolts and jack up the back of the motor a bit. Granted it is a pita, you have to remove some stuff, but it makes it so much easier to get them in or out.

    carb synchronizing

The cheapie on eBay for me. I don't use it enough to justify the Carbtune.
  19. 1980GS1000E

    felt washer

There are sealing washers between the shaft and carb body and they are not designed to be replaced. They don't normally come out unless the throttle shaft is removed from the individual carb, which is not necessary to clean the carb. They carb goes into the dip or ultrasonic cleaner with them...

Intermittent clicking/grinding sound coming from front wheel.

Sounds like wheel bearings to me. Remove the wheel to inspect. If there is any roughness, they are shot. To remove, pry up the seals, dislodge the spacer a bit and hammer them out using a rod and hammer if you don't have access to a press. You can hit on the inner race to remove since you will...
