A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Advice needed for a sprocket ratio of 16 / 45

When replacing sprockets, that's the time to replace the chain as well. Sprockets and chain all wear together: Worn sprockets will quickly wear out a new chain. Vice versa: a worn chain is not good for new sprockets

    Rear brakes not working

And while you're in there, replace the pads. They're not expensive, but putting new, modern pads in can make a major difference. Some older bikes (like mine) still had the original pads in. They were metallic and didn.t even sweep the whole rotor. Needless to say, brake performance was...

    Got a 3 wheeler today

Getting old sucks, as I think most of us here know. It still beats the alternative. (At least, I think it does.) I fractured my pelvis driving my 1100e into the side of a Chrysler back in 86. Never did get all the way over that. I'm guessing most of us here have stories to tell about injuries...

    Found during oil change

I used to keep those on hand when changing oil filters, would pop at least one every time. It's amazing the stuff you get used to doing and don't even think about. (edit)Checking back with the Original Post, I see that the piece wasn't found inside the engine, which is a relief. I really need...

    Found during oil change

Looks like the top of a acorn nut. They would come off the nut if you tightened them too much. Don't know how it got inside the engine though. And, I seem to recall that those were aluminum, could be wrong about that.

The Yugo???? Dude only repairs Yugos

There's something missing here...............where are the Trabants?

    Crosshatch???

Not sure what you're thinking about that wrist pin, but I definitely would not put that back in there. New wrist pins and top end bearings would be a sure bet for me. I don't know what replacements would cost, but those are gone. in my view.

My front wheel wanted a trial separation...

If you're really worried about this happening again, try using safety wire on the nuts. It's a lot more work, but much easier to do and undo, once the holes are drilled.

Buddy just dropped off a completely disassembled 1982 GS650e

If it was me (and thank the Lord, it isn't), I would find an engine builder and give him the job of building that engine. No way in the world would I attempt it . But that's me. That route would cost me more, but it would leave me with an engine I could trust. And if I absolutely had to do it...

    GS750/GS850 cylinder interchangeability?

Isn't RC Engineering Russ Collins old outfit? I haven't heard his name for a looooooong time.

    83' GS750ES tire choices..

Personally, I prefer rubber tires. The old school wooden tires tended to wear out very quickly, and the solid steel tires, while never wearing out are rather heavy.

    Split the cases or no??

    Definitely split the cases.........vertically.

Speedo only reads up to 10 MPH 1977 GS400

Try disconnecting the cable. The speedo won't work at all then, but at least you''ll know why.

Your thoughts on using 88 octane E0 with 1085 pistons.

I had problems with ping on my 82 1100e. I went a range colder on plugs and had a lot of improvement, but not complete.

I have a question: I have an 81 GS850 and an 81 GS1100e. Do these use the same o-ring set? I has always thought that the various CV carbs had different size o-rings. In either event, I will want a set of rings for each bike. Please send me information for ordering and I will send a check. Thanks...

Should I Offer Carb O-ring Kits For Sale?

I would buy 2 sets: one for each bike. Ihave a 81 gs850(stock) and a 81 Gs1100e (also stock). It would be a load off my mind to have all the o-rings ready to go if needed. Send me a PM .

Suzuki 650 twin with no turn signal blinking .... was perfect

When I got my GS850 running, the turn signals were weak and frequently didn't blink. After I got the SH775 R/R installed, all the lights were brighter and the turn signals were working just as they ought to. Not saying this is your problem, just throwing it into the mix.

    42 year old motorcycle

Scratches on the sealing surface probably indicate someone's been in there before, and had to scrape the (old original) gasket off. This is fairly normal for these old bikes. Most of us have had to do this at some time or other.

I'm Glad I Found this Forum!

Just a quick note: if you take the fuel line .off the carbs, putting it back on is a non-trivial task. Leave it on the carbs at all times unless you absolutely must take it off. Welcome to the site. Whatever question you can think of concerning GS motorcycles (and quite a few other makes and...

Recommend a good tap and die set

As a retired machinist, I would say to buy American-made cutting tools. You'll pay more, but quality costs.
