A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Wheel Bearings Spacer

Usually you need to switch to the bearings and spacer from the bike that you want to fit it to. Some of the 1100 - 1000 are a straight swap.

I am looking for some help with my '83 GS1100E fork setup using emulators

Not the case... The rebound is controlled by the original orifice in the piston. The Emulator only affects compression. That's why you need to set rebound first by selecting your oil weight. This is from the guide you posted :) Oil Viscosity 5wt - 30wt 15w typical by...

Any LEOs or DMV people here

I had a parking ticket on a car where the guy had go it the day after & the paperwork hadn't caught up (I hadn't sent the form in as I think you have 7-10 days, nowadays it's all online). Had to submit proof of sale, can't remember if it needed to be notarized or not & that was the last I heard...

    2025 Brown County GS Rally - June 19 - 22

Nice to see a little bit of "Salty_Monk" always makes an appearance somewhere.... Thanks Dale! :D Good to see all the pics, one day I'll add a California plate to that photo ;)

    Wheel Builders

Sounds like a good time to pick up a new skill... ;) Joe Nardy did one a few years ago & it came out ok. I've done bicycle but never a motorcycle. I would think a site like ADVRIDER might get you a better selection of answers on this one. :)

I am looking for some help with my '83 GS1100E fork setup using emulators

If the emulators were installed properly your damper rod now has no effect on the compression damping as the Emulator controls that. The Oil weight will affect both compression (now managed by emulator) and the rebound (the small hole on the damper rod). 15W is likely too much. Even 12.5w might...

    First Bike - GS650G - Rusty Crusty

Yeah that one is beyond what I'll be willing to spend my time on. There are a lot better options out there for not a lot of $$. I think you'll spend more to get this running than starting with something better :)

    Hanging idle troubleshoot help

The reason I asked about the choke is that if it runs better that would back up the air leak, lean running diagnosis. :)

    Relay upgrades for '79 GS850G

I did mine through one of these fuse boxes and put a relay in front of it. https://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Wiring_Kits/Fuseboxes/PC-8/pc-8.html These ones are also well thought of if you want an integrated relay: https://www.fuzeblocks.com/ There are also some clever "programmable" ones on...

    How to raise the needle?

Take the shim off & replace it with a stack of washers to new height (or source the Canadian ones, they have 4 grooves). There is a "electrical" washer that is exactly the right dimension, they used to sell at Radioshack but you must be able to find them on Amazon or somewhere. :)

GS550e What the heck? Is this by design or a pervious owners mistake?

Hard to see but are the U shaped brackets backwards on the bar? Is the bar back to front? :)

    Hanging idle troubleshoot help

Check you didn't snap the ends off the pilot needles in the hole. Doesn't matter how much you "adjust" them after that. :) Does it run better with the choke out?

    GS550 Steering Stem Bearing Removal

There are a few threads on here. Some people have welded to it from memory so I guess that would put in just as much heat as you've done. Somewhere there is a good post here about carefully grinding through it with a dremel tool & then when the cut gets thin, split it with a chisel & lever it...

    Rear Shocks

I doubt it.... measure up the eyes, the overall length & the amount of travel & see how it matches up. My guess is that it will be shorter with less travel but I might be wrong. :)

Need a Rear Brake Master Cylinder Rebuild Kit

I used an EX300 Ninja rear master on mine as the bore was shot. I imagine a lot of them are these days. It looks like a DL650 one might work too. It wasn't a straight bolt-on, there is a post on here about it somewhere. :)

GS engine size (450/550/750) and bike feel vs XJ6

If you are willing to spend time & money learning how to make sure it's reliable & making the sensible mods then it would be fine. I suspect any 1000 Euro GS is going to need some work. If you want something you can get on and just ride go newer..... :)

    Front brake pad replacements

What year is your 1000G? If it's 1980+ then you can use anything from any of the 82/83 Twin brake bikes. Personally I moved to the twinpot partly for that reason, good stuff is getting rare now... :)

83 GS1100E Front Master Cylinder Options

The EX650 Master cylinder is my favorite of the cheap Ebay options too. You can usually find one for $30 or so.... :) I have a MC on my shelf you can look at if you want. PM me a cell number & I'll send you a picture of it if you're interested. Not 100% sure what it's off but it does have remote...

GS engine size (450/550/750) and bike feel vs XJ6

All those L models.... for me you couldn't pick a worse selection of the genre. All GS's are relatively heavy, A modern bike will be a lot more forgiving for a new rider. In the scrambler bracket you could try a triumph 650 or a royal enfield if they are available to you. :)
