A Special Note about Email accounts!

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    First Bike - GS650G - Rusty Crusty

Maybe the stem seal is deformed & holding it up? Just a thought. The wire around the seal might have rusted whilst it was sitting. You can change those without removing the head so might be worth a try. Bent valves aren't very common on these if there is nothing else amiss...

    Choke Plunger Repairs

1979 GS1000 idles fine but races when the throttle is twisted

Most likely an air leak somewhere still... I've never have a sync have that much effect if they've been bench synced. :)

    Leaking oil at head gasket

Put spray adhesive on it & stick it to the valve cover. If you grease the other side you'll be able to re-use at your next valve check.... :)

    First Bike - GS650G - Rusty Crusty

Looks like oil/gunk that's gone solid around the top of the piston when it was left without moving for years.... I would try to run it before I opened it up personally. That lump could be what's holding up the piston. :)

1980 GS1000G Complete - almost road ready - needs carb work

It looks like a GL that someone has taken away a bit of the "L" What's Half an L is it an "i" :p The carbs will likely need jetting properly around the pods but did you change all the O rings and clean properly, splitting the rack etc? I thought the SixSigma kits were basically set up...

Toyota Rav4 only come with hybrid engines in 2026

There's a reason that there are so many Prius Taxi's these days.... 1/2 million mile capable without much maintenance. There are more repair shops & parts etc around now too (i.e. easy to get a 2nd hand/refurb battery replacement these days). I've driven a couple and no argument apart from...

    Coffee withdrawals

Decaf coffee doesn't legally have to have much less caffeine so you never know what you're getting. Also the caffeine is stripped using some pretty nasty chemicals so I always go "full fat" or nothing.... :)

    Battery ground

The ones from the loom are likely meant to pick up other parts on the chassis such as battery box etc but as a general rule as long as you have a ground path to everything and all black /white is connected to ground you will be ok. I think it's a weather thing... with the corrosion rates in our...

    Front brake pad replacements

You can upgrade to the twinpots on that bike. That would be my next move if you think the pistons are shot.

    First Bike - GS650G - Rusty Crusty

Can’t you remove a plug and use a mirror or an endoscope to see what’s going on? Maybe the valve is already bent. … good luck

    Tyre Valve

I believe the fronts only became tubeless in 82. Some people convert (although you still don’t have a tyre retaining bump but it seems to work if you use the right stepped cutter to flatten the area around the hole).

Help Me Identify My Calipers and Pads?

I think those forks are the 82 or 83 GL model. I think there’s rebound adjustment on the bottom of the fork legs. that would make sense as those brakes match… :)
