A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    '85 gs550 Ignitor Issues

There are two solutions for the person willing to do some retro fitting and basic wiring. I wired up a gm hei ignition module with a mechanical advance unit. Slotted my ignition plate to accomodate for timing. Fired it up and was happy. I ended up finding a good used working unit and swapped...

    03 gsxr 750 motor in an 83 gs750E frame

Welcome back. That would be a powerful swap. If you ran a custom intake setup to account for the angle of thise throttle bodies, you should clear the gas tank. The other issue is how large is the radiator for that motor. You may run into clearance issues. Aesthetically, the rad is going to look...

    Boxcuta's 83 GS550E Project log...

try heating the bolts up and hitting them with a manual impact driver. 50/50 mix of acetone and automatic trans fluid in a spray bottle does much better than pb blaster.

    My homemade cycle lift table

I agree, it definetly needs some support in the rear. Chuck, I like the ingenuity and repurposing you did. My suggestion is to add two upright wood pieces at the rear of the table. Bolt them thru like the rest so they swing into place and attach some string to pull them when you bring the table...

I kick myself for selling my cb4 I found in a shed, side pipes in tact and all. thanks for the info. Go to your favorite store, (walmart, joanns, home depot) and pick up either swimming pool noodles or pipe insulators and wrap them around your frame to protect it while installing parts. Lay the bike on its side if you do not have a sturdy jack to install the engine. With...

    blue/white smoke out of exhaust

Those are the stock coils for the last generation 750's. I have the same ones on my bike and its as from the factory. On my 550, I bought katana coils from a mid to late 90's bike. Think I paid $30 or so off ebay. I believe the 90's bandits, kats, and a few others shared the same coils as the...

Just picked up an '83 GS550L. I have needs!

If you search for 550 ignitor some good threads come up. Look up member Spyug. He successfully used a 750 ignitor as a substitute. Myself, I used GM hei modules for a short period with success. A lot more reading to do

Do an intro in the owners section if you haven't. There is a wealth of new info in the sticky in that section. Go through it religiously, cut corners and you will pay later. Look into AGM batteries, no water and generally can be found for cheap.

    What causes a melted harness?

the simple explanation is the current has to go somewhere. The ground provided paths of least resistance, essentially acting as a ghetto fuse. Pull the harness out and check all the connections. I prefer to beef up the ground wire layout on harnesses. Look through the manual on Basscliffs site...
