A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Replace stator as a maintenance item?

I had to replace my stator last summer. It had been running off the battery (for about 100 miles per charge). So I knew it was time to install the sh775 I already had waiting. Did that, replaced stator (all poles black) and got everything back together, and now the headlight is brighter...

    Oil Sight Glass

I have a 81 GS850 and I can't tell the oil level looking through the sight glass in the clutch cover. I know these darken with age, so my questions are: how do I clean it? Or can I clean it? Does the clutch cover need to be removed, or can I clean it while it's mounted? Or does it need replaced...

    Craigslist "funnies"

The quality of the paintwork is excellent. What a pity it was wasted on that abortion of a bike.

What mods to take GS offroad?

I went cowtrailing once or twice with my old GS1100E, and blew the fork seals. Fork gaiters would be a good idea as well. Better yet would be a good off-road bike like my old XT500 Yamahammer.

Grass Clippings in the Road -- Have you ever?

I have never had any problem with grass clippings. Wet leaves, yes. And I recently proved once again that loose gravel is the worst of all. Still healing up from that one.

    Running!

Got the Ratzuki back yesterday and it runs most excellently. Had to replace the stator ( all poles blackened) and put in the SH775 as well. It now runs the indicator lights properly and seems to be charging the battery. I don't have a voltmeter and wouldn't know how to use it if I had it. All I...

    Chain Breaking

This happened in the late '80s sometime. I'm pretty sure it was the OEM chain, and the mileage was under 15k at the time.

    Chain Breaking

Anyone else ever actually break a chain? I was cruising up the road one day and with a rattle, my chain departed from the bike, and I was free-wheeling. This was a 630 chain on a '82 gs1100e. Dunno why it broke. It never gave me a clue that it going to go, and I never did figure out just why. It...

How ugly was your bike when you got it vs. now?

When I got the Ratzuki it was ugly. How ugly you ask? When I rode by children screamed, strong men covered their eyes and women just went inside where they didn't have to see it. It's still ugly but now it runs, so who cares.

Looking for gs owners in Iowa

Keep in mind the bike has to sit for at least 12 hours before you start measuring, to make sure it's totally cold and the measurements are accurate. So don't ride the day of the check. Oh, and Wingsman, don't forget Zen, as well as the witchcraft and other stuff.

    Katana 1100 meets CB 77

My personal reaction is that , the tank aside, I like the looks of the Honda better than the Katana. No contest on the performance of course.

    Fork Springs

Ok, springs are here, and it's time to assemble. 1.1 Sonic springs, 10w oil (how much oil would be right?)I am assuming it would be the right time to put in new seals. What else do I need to do? As a 300-pounder, should I set the preload high or medium? No fairing or bags.
