    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1100 clutch question

Anybody done time staring at the clutch baskets on 1100 vs. 1150's?
Back in 85' I sheared the rivits off the basket on my 1100E clutch and had it repaired. On my current 1100E (different one) I put in a 10 disc clutch pack and welded the rivit heads on both sides. Ive had no problems with this setup on the street for 2000 miles and the motor is a little juicier at 142hp at the rear tire (rear tire dyno'ed). Im going to step up to an other than stock cams in the motor soon and Im thinking about the clutch basket again. Not only do the steel baskets shear the rivits, they also shatter from stress cracks after awhile.
So I was thinking about an 1150 clutch basket. They are designed in answer to the previous problems and are aluminum. Lighter and stronger has to be better. I checked part numbers and all are the same for the bearing cages and spacers.
I recently had opportunity to buy a complete setup from and 85' 1150ES. All the parts are the same except for the basket/drive plate of course.
So this weekend I decided to dig in and swap them out and see if it would work. Turns out the drive plate is 1mm larger in diameter and it looks like this will be the reason for the answer to be "Wont Work".:?
Has anybody tried this before? Does anybody have any ideas before I put it back together this week?
 
Sorry Mike...have never seen an 1150 basket...not trying to hijack your thread, but I am curious as to what mods you have done to the 1100 to extract 142 h.p. at the wheel, running the stock cams, to boot!
BTW, Vance & Hines and similar performance clutch baskets appear on ebay from time to time, with the heavy duty backing plate etc......you might want to keep an eye out for them.

I just counted my primary drive gear teeth on the basket of my 1150 motored Katana. It had 89. I've been told the 1100 may have fewer teeth and may cause a wurring sound if fitted into an 1150 motor. Don't know how many teeth the 1100 has or if it has fewer teeth.

I think your motor will tax a stock clutch eventually.

Turns out the 1150 Basket has 1 more tooth than the 1100 basket.
Oh well, I didnt pay alot for the 1150 basket and stuff, $80.00. Im sure I can get that out of it on ebay.....Unless anybody out there wants it?

Chef, Ya, I Know about the billet baskets and plate services you recommended. I may be talking to them in the near future. Was hoping to squeeze by and NOT pay a million dollars though. Thanks for your reply!:)

Tony, the motor has an Wiseco 1166 kit, 36mm Carbs off an 1150 with 150 jets and a complete Dyna Ignition. I was actually hoping for more with these mods. Im going to put a .430 lift cam in it later this winter. Im trying to get close to 160hp and be smooth as it is now[-o<
 
I ran a GS 1100 clutch basket in my GS 1150 for a couple of thousand mi., while finding an 1150 basket. No noises or problems of any kind. Best I can remember the 1150 primary gear had 2 more teeth than the 1100 gear. Thought the 1150 gear would be slightly larger in diameter, cause of the extra teeth, but the diameters appear to be the same.
 
Ya. After Me and my son counting both 3 times, we came up with the 1100 having 87 teeth and the 1150 having 88. When puuting it all together the 1150 Basket wont slide fully into place because the gear teeth wont propery mesh. The carriage and roller cage wont slide in the basket hub by a nth because of this. The 1100 basket slides right in almost by itself.
Anybody need a near new 1150 basket, carriage and roller cage? I'll post it in the parts for sale section just in case for a week before putting it up on ebay.

I might be interested in that basket. Are you sure there is only 88 teeth?

I had another 1150 basket, it also had 89 teeth.
 
Ya. My boy says Im a dummy. We counted over and over and I still wrote the wrong number. The 1150 has 89 and the 1100 has 88.
So it has 89 teeth. It also has less than 6000 miles on it. The bike it came from was wrecked terribly and parted out.
I can send a pic if you want.
If you want it. Id take $75 plus shipping.
