    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1100 GSX annoying oil leak!

My 1980 GSX 1100 started leaking oil between the cylinder head and the cylinder itself. I noticed this yesterday when i drove 90 km non stop and after arriving home my right leg was in oil (minor sprays on left leg too). I looked liked that someone had sprayed hair spray on my leg but it was oil. I started figuring this out and it seems that the leak comes from the right end of the cylinder head and cylinder. The gasket between them seems wet. :(

What do you suggest I can do to fix this problem? The engine has been opened two years ago when I installed 1166 wiseco -kit in it but I really did tighten the cylinder head nuts i correct order and and right torque. I even retightened the nuts after 1000 km ride.

Is there any chances of tightening the smaller nut in top of cylinder (in right end, just where the leak comes - nut under valve cap) head a bit more, maybe even a bit too in torque? What about cylinder head nuts; could i retighten them just a bit more than it says in the repair manual? Damn I hate these leaks!

I suppose that my last chance would be to put some ugly oil sealing goo in there because i suppose that oil is not leaking from pressure. What do you suggest, please help me getting this engine sealed [-o<
 
Do not over torque the tiny bolts on the ends. They are incredibly easy to strip and do not actualy apply clamping force to the gasket. Loosen all head bolts/nuts then clean threads and retorque with blue loc-tite. If this dosent do the trick you'll need to pull the block and replace all gaskets from the base gasket up. Dont be tempted to just do the head gasket unless you really like to practice top-end jobs.
 
You are going to have to do the head and base gaskets together or just put up with it (which I can't because I hate oil leaks)..

The previous owner actually has over torqued the tiny bolts in the ends - the right side has a longer bolt installed in there which comes through from the bottom (in between the cylider block "fins" or what ever they are in english). In the bottom between those fins there is a nut which can be torqued really well. I just checked and that nut had lost its threads. That might be one of the reasons why there is oil spilling from there? I installed a new nut there and tightened it real well. 8-[

I really would not like to reopen the whole engine because of that little spill. Sure it stains my trousers during longer trips but maybe i?ll leave it be. Soon I?m going to check the valve clearances so then i may be able to tighten all the head nuts just a little bit more.

Did I do something wrong when I got the cylinder bored 2 years ago? I even had the cylinder head leveled because it was a bit crooked. I suppose that wiseco provides good enough gaskets with its piston kits, or what do you think? Actually what choices do I have when installing a 1166 wiseco -kit but to use gaskets manufatured by wiseco? I also didnt use any silicone sealants or other stuff in there so thats not the problem.

Are these oil spills just a feature i have to live with? Is there some magic filling that would even slightly seal those spills from outside? Any clues? :confused:
