A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Progress - front end fitted
engine placed in frame
and .......... wait for parts again

image.jpg

Last day in Europe and its homeward bound to the swamp (aka Houston )
waiting for me -
exhaust system
nice new rs36 carbs
a small mountain of genuine spares and used parts

finish the roller this week and (time permitting) test fire the motor

No Euro GS parts in your luggage?
Looking forward to the next update.

well..... As it happens

I do have a few hard to find things in the suitcases - best part is an early (86) gsxr750 cam cover which gives enough clearance to allow removal in an earlier GS frame - hence valve clearance adjustment is possible without removing engine .

can you tell I've created a few Frankenstein bikes before

New additions to parts mountain

image.jpg

I think all the basics are now in place so this weekend -

Temporarily mount engine
exhaust
carbs
loom

Then hopefully fire up the 1127 lump and hope that it's as good as the bench tests indicate, that said, it owes me about $50 so no biggie if it's knocking or grinding .

next on the list ( time permitting)

change out swing-arms ( 4 permutations in spares mountain)
try wheel combinations (3 different 17" Suzuki wheels from 4.5 to 6")
resolve brakes, sprockets , chain alignment

about another 100 issues to determine solutions for yet

The word of the day is - frustration
engine mounted
carbs mounted
offered up supposed 1100K header/system from eBay and it's nowhere near - looks like it's off a watercooled gixxer as the centres are way off.
moved on to electrics and a lot of niggles - wrong starter relay, assorted missing parts ..... Guess I'm not running up the motor this weekend.

moved onto finishing the chassis and that worked out a little better -

It's alive - ran up the 1127 mystery motor today

firing on all 4
no knocks or rattles
no oil smoke
great oil pressure
great compression

everything is jury rigged for proof of concept and everything's working fine ..... So time to strip it for powder coat, paint, polishing etc - might be finished this year.

also started to pull down the 1100E - more stuff for spares mountain

don't you love holiday weekends !!!!!image.jpg

So - finally approaching the rebuild and I still have the luxury/distraction of too many options -

calfab or 1100E swingarm
180 or 160 rear wheel
1127 GSXR lump or 82 1100E lump

i'll be deciding on the motor over the next 2 hours while the paint hardens on my frame

More parts ready - motor goes into frame tomorrow - taking the simpler route and going with the air cooled one

1100E motor fitted, valve clearance checked and adjusted (only 2 were off), cases removed for painting (baking in the oven as I type )

onward and upward !!

Frustrating day dealing with chain alignment - guess I underestimated the subtle differences between parts, other people's experience and my lack of patience

first look -

IMG_1411.jpg

A few spacer changes here , a few there and we're close ( or so I thought)

IMG_1413.jpg

At the end (post this picture) I shortened the chain, mounted everything up and got the laser out .......

turns out that an 82 750E frame, 82 1100E engine, Modified Calfab arm, unknown year 5.5" GSXR rear wheel, 530 chain and sprockets..... is a little different and I need a 3/8 offset sprocket IMG_1414.jpg

Started to button up the motor and as it's electrical upgrades next thought I'd better throw in a new stator.

the old one was ok other than some brittle shrouds on the connectors, however, while you're in there - why not
