1395 is completed.... Track time completed

Well after 45 runs this year with the MTC big block, 11 runs have been in the 6.30 range.

So the bike will run solidly in the 6.30's with a warmed up slick.

I had a run just this past week at 6.33 and that's with a mis-shift due to low air in the tank going into 4 gear that could of been in the 20's.

I've tried the 42, 44 and 46 rear sprocket and I think the 44 is best for my combo.

The 1150 head showed up this week and just looking at the ports you can tell they are bigger by 1/4 inch. So with my 1100 head I've been choking this motor and this 1150 one should wake it up. I got a good feeling I'll be knocking on the door (5.99) in a few weeks.

eh, I could beat it. With a stick!

Good job Jake. That thing is smokin man.

Finally got down to 6.27 tonight, but still ran 106 mph. Getting closer 8)

Order my 1150 studs today so hopefully the 1150 head will be going on soon. Then it's in the bag.

Yeah I find it harder to lose 30 pounds (229 now) at my age now so it's ease'er to make the engine faster. I heard if you drop 20 pounds then that equals 1/10.

Did I say I like my beer.

It want to see what your MPH is with that new 1150 head. I had a Star racing ported head on a GS1100 that really did well.

Had a guy with a turbo on a Busa show up Friday. I think he said it makes 250 HP. He was doing massive wheelies, just couldn't keep that front end down. The best part was when he was going by you could hear that turbo sucking air.

If you ever get the chance to see some streebike shootout racing go.
I think the rules require that the bike has to be able to make a 15 mile trip or something to that effect to be considered a street bike. My hats off to the drivers. Front end up the entire track (thats what it looks like) with no bars and 200MPH trap speeds.

I think I like watching them more than the funny bikes.

The shootout, outlaw and 60 inch class are my favorites..

man do I feel slow now....

Hey Jake, Do you ever get to a 1/4mi strip? I would like to know what it turns...

What is your carb setup? (jets and needles)

Congrats of the low 6's....

Thanks Rob, your bike is fast too  , your's is setup for the street and mine the drags. I give all my credit to the slick, gearing and bars. I bet your bike could run in the 6.80's without bars with just some more gearing.

Never been to the 1/4 with this bike, hopefully this summer. I sort of compare my bike to Rosco's bike since he was running the same engine 1166 but he has flatsides and the drag chassis so his makes more powered and is a few tenths faster. He runs around 10.10-10.20 in the 1/4.

As a 1166 my bike would run in the 6.50 range all day long in the 1/8 so I'd say in the 1/4 it might go 10.50. But as a 1395 now with the stock 1100 head it's most likely running in the high nines. Pulls really good now in the higher gears and should only do better when the 1150 head goes on soon.

As for carbs when my bike was stock 1075cc or even as a 1166 with cv 34 carbs with pods she go lean in the upper gears at wot. Anything smaller than a 140 mains jets she hit a wall. I tried the dyno jet kit and max out the jet's and needle's and still had the same problem. So I put oem needles back in and use either 150 or 160 main jets. Mikuni jets are the only one's I run now.

Now with the GSXR 750 38mm carbs i'm still using stock needles but have 160 jets in it. The exhaust pipe residue shows it running alittle rich but the plugs look good and tan. But when I start making a few hot laps at the drags I like to know I'm not melting anything inside the engine.

Chasing a lean condition is a pain in the butt, but I like to start out rich and work my way back. I'm sort of a backwards guy anyhow.

PS That check should be showing up real soon

Doesn't sound backwards to me. 8) Sounds like a fun ride, good thread.

Hey Jake,

What altitude are you running at? I am at 3400ft. and have almost exactly the same set up as you describe (pods, stock carbs, OEM needles, Kerker 4-1 pipe) and I am just about to start the jetting ritual for the pods. I was at 130 mains with the airbox modded so I was going to step up to 135's as a first guess. Perhaps I should jump to the 140's for my first try instead? Maybe I will split the difference and try 137.5's instead. :? What did you do with the needles? I am in the 3rd of 5 grooves at the moment and figure to try it there and see how it runs before I change anything else.

G-Day Mark

I'am at 1700 feet here. Was your bike running lean with 130's ?

If you tried raising the needles all the way and re-adjusting air/fuel screws and it's still lean then I'd go with bigger mains. Not to sure about your altitude. But I'd try 140's Make sure your're using Mikuni jets cause DJ jets are smaller. As for the oem needles on mine there's no adjustment grooves so I just leave them alone and just use bigger jets. I was using the DJ kit jet's and needles at one time but it didn't work out so I put the oem needles back in and use just mikuni jets

Don't you just love trying to get the c-clip's out to adjust them needles. I'd rather pull the bowl's off a 100 times than to mess with the needles  At one time I was going to just leave that clip off since the spring pushes down on the plastic hat anyways.

Let's us know
Jake

popping the clips off is relitively easy... if you know the trick. press the open side of the clip against the side of a screwdriver, and it will pop halfway off. Then just be carefull removing it the rest of the way so they don't fly off. :-)
