A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi guys, this is my first post here. I have a 78 gs1000 with a bad frame. I found a 1980 gs1000g shaft drive frame online and would like to use it to rebuild the bike. Would all of the running gear from the 78 work on the 80 frame? The 80 is a shaft drive and the 78 is chain I'm thinking that the swing arm from the chain bike would work but I'm not a 100% sure. Any advice?

It's not a simple plug and play for sure. I haven't done it myself but I'm pretty sure the motor mounts are different, I know tank mounts are different for sure and there's probably a number of other frame issue's. I'm sure someone will chime in on the matter that knows more accurate details. Basically it's going to be a bunch of welding work to make it work. What you need is a 77-79 GS750 frame. Your 1000 will bolt right in, I've heard it's a nice mod to do. If you put your local area in your thread, or better yet your signature along with your bike info I bet someone might have something for you. If you were anywhere near Victoria, BC Canada I would have frames for you.

Alright, sounds like I should be looking for the 750 frames then.

I have a good 78 frame - no title though. That or maybe a 78/79 750 (make up new motor mounts) are your easiest swaps or use the engine in a GS1100E (make up new motor mounts)
