A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So yeah... here's my video of my tank cleaning. I'm rather sad.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uptEVbZ6gfk

The only problem that I encountered I went over in the video, but the long short of it is this. there is rust cracks, just on one side of the tank and I thought that my friend might be able to wield it.

However he states it's not something he feels comfortable doing and I understand that. Any thoughts? I've been scouring the WTS forums. I definitely want to ride this season, but meow.

Thanks for listening.

I talked it over with the Mrs and I have been approved to purchase a tank. Now, I def don't want to buy a tank if I don't have too, I will take some macro shots of my tank and post them and let you guys see what I can do, that's if anyone even reads my thread, I know I let my thread die for almost a year, but with my buds riding, I'm wanting to do this more and more.

Sorry to hear/see the damage to the tank. Thanks for sharing your video with us.
Best wishes on finding a suitable replacement.

Daniel

Hard to believe that much damage from an otherwise beautiful tank.
I think it still may be possible to have it sealed, but structurally I think it could be very weak metal and it wouldn't take much to punture it. I'll keep an eye out for another tank for you, but believe me when I say that your tank looks better than most I've seen on E-bay.

F-it

F-it

Dude, if you're going to resort to buying a new tank then I'll just say F-it and try and weld the old one. Worst thing that happens is that you have to buy a new tank anyway! Gimme a call, or hand off the tank to Woody and I'll take it. Either way, bring it to work.

!!! =^.^= I actually bought a tank the other day of a GS Member. Just got to wait for it to get here, take a look and let me know if you want to assist in the tank.
Tank will need cleaning and stripping...

But we shall see!

Sooooo... salty_monk was right in his selling post...

Makes me sad. The inside of this tank is not wide enough to fit my GS. Guess I will be looking to sell this tank... Hopefully recoup some of the money that I spent on it. Tank on the left - purchased tank. Tank on the right, my tank.

I really do like the make and the look of the new tank though. It's pretty sweet.

Well, it's not the easiest answer but you can cut the bottoms out of each tank and swap the old bottom onto the new tank. Just a thought....

Steve's right, not to many good tanks on Ebay.

WELD up the tank and coat it with Caswell's tank coating product.

Skuld, I wish I'd seen this thread earlier, I might've saved you a purchase.
Anyway, if you ever get to Auburn, check out the Maine Cycle Warehouse.
The prices aren't the best, but they've got a huge inventory.
Bring your original tank to match it up. They probably have one.

Actually someone recommended that location prior. I will be taking a trip eventually, but my buddy is going to attempt to weld the tank. We shall see how it goes. I hope it is successful, but I have already put that tank down as a loss.

Congrats!

Congrats!

My husband told me it was very likely that you would post your video last night :) Seems he was right. Nice job getting it running and thanks for the tank bumper. Good luck with the rest!

Yarrr! If your husband and Woody didn't stop by I wouldn't have known this for a bit, I just got home from Target and was settling in for the night...
=^.^=

News. I went to the Motorcycle Warehouse... Oh man, SO MUCH TREASURE!!! I plan to go again sometime. I picked up a tank, I'm not sure what model it is from but the width of the bottom, the girth of the gas tank rubbers is good. Just... the tail of the tank is alittle short... ;_; I am gonna head to Joanne's Fabric and get some floral foam, maybe try to fab something? I really do like this tank and my gas cover fit's it perfectly. However, I still need to clean the inside and get a new petcock gasket.

Sadly, apparently; Drag racers come to that location to pick the 1000 tanks when he has them, replacing any tanks they ding up while racing. Makes me a little sad. But what can I do.. ;_;

So... I guess I need to ask, are any of you guys seeing these pictures. I was advised that unless my album from Facebook is public you guys can't see!

I apologize if this is the case. Let me know and I will update properly going forward.

Also I got some new photos to show and I'm getting stoked!

Do you see these pictures Chuck? Just curious. Anywho. Send me a picture or post one of that seat. I have no issues creating stuff... I'm fairly interested in composites.

Thanks.
