DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Looks great.
Did you paint or powder the frame?
I have a set of 29 smoothbores that sure could use your carb cleaning methods.

Frame was painted with, Interlux Perfection, 2 part polyurethane marine paint, I do my own painting as I have access to a booth:D
Powder coat around here is expensive, I was quoted $400:eek:

Pretty labour intensive getting the carbs cleaned, about 8 hours work just for disassembly, cleaning and paint.

Cheers,

Great looking bike. Good work. I'd like to see a picture of the FJ.

Things are looking great. Your build is very similar to mine (minus my progress has been much slower!) and it looks great. It's good to see someone moving along quickly with similar ideas. I'm sure you'll be done before me so you'll have to let me know how it rides. Where did you get your rear shocks? How long are they? I'm thinking of putting 14-15in shocks to get some swingarm angle back after putting on my front forks and lowering it about 3in in the front. It will take away some rake but a balance must be found. Hence, why I'm excited to see yours get finished so you can tell me about her performance ha. Anyway, good job again and keep up the good work.

Rear shocks came with the bike, they are Marzocchi Stradas, bees nees back in the 70's-80's. They need to be refurbished. I beleive they are 13.5" long

O and last question for a while: Did your 170 rear tire clear pretty well? Would you clear your swingarm legs and chain with a 180?

With the wheel/tire all the way ahead it rubs very lightly on the swingarm. If it is pulled back 2-3 detents on the chain adjusters it has just over a 1/4" clearance.

So a 180 would be really tight on the swingarm, can't answer for the chain, but I believe it will fit in that aspect, would beable to answer more acuratly in a few days.

My 170 measures 169.4mm wide @ 34 psi, Bridgestone Battleaxe BT021.

Hey I appreciate the quick responses. I figured it would be pretty tight! I may just go with a 170 to be safe and not have to whip out a grinder on my nice little swingarm since I went through all the trouble of finding it and what not.

Oh dang that's wide! Good to know because I think I'm just going to put on a 4.5" so mine will definitely clear with plenty of room

Have you thought about mobbing the rear brake torque arm to the inside of the caliper? Will give you more exhaust clearance.
