One of THE best paint jobs I've seen on this forum. The subtle details are fantastic.

Nearing the finish line!

Nearing the finish line!

Thank you all for the amazing feedback! Seriously, it's very encouraging to hear positive comments from a community of guys that know these bikes and hold them in such high regard. So glad I found this place!

Got a new chain as a bike-warming gift from my friend Mark, who helped lay out the graphics....

Got the rear axle adjusted to spec, slapped the tank and seat on and took my first few miles!

The specs on the cluster are courtesy of a chrome polish bottle that managed to get too close to a buffing wheel....uh, don't ask.

I have to adjust the rear brake (too much play in the pedal), finish wiring the rear signals, a couple minor tweaks to the carbs and tidy up a bit of the wiring behind the headlight and I believe my first build will be in the books!

I'll have the full load of "after" pics when I get all the tins on and finish cleaning off all that splattered chrome polish, woof!

WOW! Very nice, just went thought the thread... Got to the last post.... I need to see that bike!
You must write suspense novels on the side!
Can't wait to see it

Nice one mate, very glad to hear you got your first ride in, now can't wait to see the finished pic's!

Finished!

Finished!

Got it finished, tuned and tightened, runs like a champion!! My pal Nick has an insane camera so we decided to get all Annie Leibovitz and take some artsy fartsy photos......

Without further delay, here is my freshly finished 1978 Suzuki GS 400. Special thanks to my friends that helped me through those long frustrating "maybe I should just go buy a new bike" moments and got me through to the other side of my very first build. Thank you also to the members of this forum for providing me some amazing tips when I was in foreign territory and encouraging words....

Amazing!! congratulations, you must be a proud father. Love the paint job, very unique.

Mate that's awesome, she looks fantastic!

I am going to have to give you one little bit of critique though... you need some sort of bracing for those front forks. The stock guard provides bracing so without it, they'll be a little more flexy than they should be so I would be looking at getting a fork brace on there if I was you... just my 2c though... top job!

So when are you going to submit pictures for Bike of the Month? A top candidate indeed.

Dude if I had that bike I'd nod my head and throw thumbs ups to everyone at every single red light. Just an epic paint job on a well executed bike. Amazing

Very nice! The paint is slick, especially the Suzuki "S" you have imbedded. That's a nice touch. However, I would advise you to install a fender because those knobby tires will throw all manner of debris once you get her going. Also would provide some torsional stiffness in the forks.

I bet she sounds pretty tough with those shortys.

Very nice job, brilliant paint job and nice that you have such talented friends willing to help.

Enjoy.

Now what's next ? :D

My first GS was a 78 400 and I loved it. Took it everywhere, Smokeys, Nags Head, Arkansas..... Mine was nice, but she would have bowed down in humble adoration. Excellent job, great thread. I know that those shortys sound good. I did a Honda CB350 last summer and they were just the ticket, along with being a great value. Way to go. BOM

Just read the whole tread.

I missed somehow....OK I admit it. I saw it many times but I though it would be another Boober-build. Yawn.

Stellar work. The paint is simply amazing.

Now a bit of critique (Everybody is one. Right?).

There is no fender. The bike looks incomplete.

If you don't like them maybe make it really short in the front?

Beside aren't fenders required by law?

Again great work. I admire your work but honestly it isn't for me. I would cry at the first scratch so I probably never ride it.

Needs a front fender and then its perfect
very lovely paint and such.
