Hello all, first off is some info on me, which may explain any stupid statements or thick questions to come in the future! I will then do the bike bit. i'm going to end up waffling a bit so skip to the photos below and bike info to bypass the rest if you wish.
I work in Mallorca on the super yachts and have got my first ever permanent gig. Have forever wanted to have a bike to make the most of time off and enjoy the locations i find myself in. permanent job and living on land now allows me to do this. Started doing my test a few years ago during my down time in between the ski and yacht seasons and got my full license a couple years back. Previous to doing my test I had only every ridden trials bikes whilst living in the french alps (including snapping my radius and having a plate and screws thrown in) so up until going for my mod 1 training I'd never had a seat, a speedo or electric start. Passed it all comfortably enough and then just waited till my situation meant I could get a bike.
The bike choice of suzuki came around as we (wife and I) imported a fairly rare suzuki jimny/sj thing whilst working in japan doing a couple of ski seasons. I wanted to stick with the brand suzuki as seemed like a good idea, they seem to go under the radar a bit more for the general population which I like. Next requisite was to get something that would be tax/mot exempt so 40years old to save me having to get it back to the UK every year like I do with my car. Have lived out of the UK mostly for the last 10 years. might change in the future with all this *@%^$*@%^$*@%^$*@%^$tardry going on!
The bike..... i had been looking for ages at different models and what I could afford. gt's went out the window and settled on a gs. Spoke to the few bike people i knew about shaft/chain etc and settled on a chain driven gs750. I am fairly mechanically minded and wanted something to learn on and improve my abilities in time. saw loads on many websites and managed to view a couple in the uk. The one i bought was on Eblag, then gumtree and didnt go anywhere for a while. went and test rode it with a mate around a car park. all worked well enough and seller was pretty genuine. Its not perfect but works and has an mot and some money thrown at it.
ideally wanted wire wheels as i like the look of them, but one didnt come into my grasp unfortunately! from viewing the bike the paint job on the tank is ok but a bit had chunked off so that will be one of the first jobs to strip it back and redo it, probably a different colour as well. the front brake was a bit grabby but is has new pads in, so may just need some bedding in.
it has had i am told; new air pods, chain + sprockets, braided brake lines and pads, painted tank, reconditioned engine (apparently, came with the old one and a box if bits which is at my parents in London), new tyres, bars, grips, fork seals and oil and the speedo, seat and the lights.
I liked the fact it wasn't all original as it means I won't feel bad fettling and tinkering with it and probably doing more harm than good. also didnt want to be too financially in so if it all goes to *@%^$*@%^$*@%^$*@%^$ i don't loose too much.
its being couriered out to me from London and was due next week, but that ain't happening now is it! hopefully it'll arrive come late april/may after the lockdowns might finish.
might be a glacially slow build thread to begin with but plans are to ride it when i get the chance and then go from there.
