A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

my clutch does not work until it's almost all the way released...some one told me to buy some time to take the clutch cover off and put a washer in front of the spring..does any one else know anything about this thanks

I'm only guessing that you've already tried adjusting your cable?

cable is stretched or plates are worn out. putting a washer in front the spring will just make the clutch harder to disengage, it wont affect the bite position

ok thanks....its holding for now...not slipping,,,,will just buy some plates and springs

GS clutch plates are quite durable and typically last the life of the bike, unless it's been abused. The clutch springs on the other hand loose tension with age. Most of the time a slipping clutch can be fixed by installing new OEM springs. Aftermarket springs will work as well but they increase hand effort due to an increased spring rate.

Best thing to do is pull the clutch apart and measure the plates, and order new springs. You may need new friction plates too, but most likely not. I have three different GS1000 clutch friction disc sets sitting in the garage, taken from parted out bikes, and all are still well within spec. Not much of a selling market for parts like these because the originals rarely wear out.

its not slipping...it dont start pulling until it's a 1/4 from being all the way released...

Sounds normal. Maybe loosen the cable a little.

yeah put more free play in it until your happy...simple.

Kind of scary. We are here telling people how to do a 20 second cable adjustment. Threads like this always make me wonder what other maintenance isn't being done...like valve adjust. Nevermind...

5 words for you...
heavy
duty
backing
plate
kit

without it your playing with fire if you run your bike hard.

The washer idea is to shim the clutch springs with a washer

the wrong kind of oil can cause slippage can't it? oil change and clean the clutch with kerosene maybe...

derp, i assumed not working meant slipping. gotta read the fine print i guess.
