DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Pete,
Try and find one of those old red, rubber, Australian Army enema bags. They come with a hose and valve. Now that would give your bike some real character. One word of caution, never take anything I say, seriously.
Niels

Hahahahaaha classic Niels, think I'll stick with my whipper snipper tank :p

one other thing i forgot to mention in my last post...after running it the other night i pulled the plugs out and they had traces of liquid on them....why and what is causing that....is it just to rich or is it another problem

well i ordered that valve cover gasket and the breather gasket.....should be here next week sometime......started taking the vavle cover off....got all the bolts loose and ready to be taken out but ran out of time....amazingly enough all the bolts and screws came loose without having to drill any out.....made me very happy......

Sort out your carbs, valves, etc. before worrying about any fuel on your plugs. Otherwise you could be chasing your tail if you try to fix that as well, one thing at a time will show you if something else is wrong :)

Glad to see you getting stuck in, you'll be very satisfied once she's done and purring away happily :)

The gaskets were pretty old and brittle.....

Now I need to get a smaller feeler gauge...mine is too big....

Be smart and get a metric feeler gauge set. Much more accurate, go down to ultra thin, and no conversions required. They are inexpensive and will last a lifetime.

That's what I'm looking for....found one on eBay but am hoping to find one at a local parts store tomorrow......thanx for the input.

It is not....you did manage to freak me out though and make me go back out in the garage and look at it.....its slight marking on it....so slight I couldn't even feel it with my finger......my guess as to why it looks rusty is a combination of poor light and my flash highlighting it......thanx for the heads up.......

Those gaskets look like mine were when I went to clean all the surfaces up.

Take it slow when getting the old gasket material off. I used liberal amounts of metho on a rag to soften it up and get it moving off.

They recommend a wooden or plastic scraper to get the material off. I used a small flat head screwdriver but be real cautious as you can easily score the soft alloy gasket surface and cause yourself a leak.

Did some work on the tank.....

So I'm looking to replace the stock air filter with something that has a little better flow to go with my custom exhaust...and I would REALLY like to keep the stock airbox....but I can't seem to find anything.....anyone have any ideas.....

K&N don't make a replacement element for it?

You could always gut the airbox and make a different air filter fit, just make sure everything still seals up nicely.

I haven't seen a 425 airbox so don't know how hard/easy that would be...

if they do make one i couldnt find it....

does anyone know if a GS550 air filter will fit in it???? k&n makes one for that bike....

So I was trying to take my old exhaust gaskets out without any luck.....any tips or tricks for taking them out.....they seem pretty tight ....

The filter in those bikes is foam isn't it?Flows and filters better than a K&N.

If necessary replace the foam but other than that you have as good a filter as you can get in it.I've cut pleated paper out and replaced with foam.

Dragging back my memories of my GS425E it was a foam air filter on a metal frame.
