A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm not sure what jets are in the 425 carbs, but a lot of Mikunis tend to go up in increments of 2.5 so you'll probably add 5 to what's there now...

Where can I find what size is in there now.........I ask a lot of questions (probly dumb ones)......but only cause I really don't know a lot about jetting......thanx in advance.....

Yea that's what i thought......compared to a new one at least...and was cheaper than a original one was

Nice! Looks to be in good condition too!

Give the stock jets a go first, but make sure you do plug chops to make sure you're not too lean. Too rich won't do damage but will rob you of available power, whereas too lean will cause it to run hotter and worst case is holes in the pistons.

probably a dumb question....but what is a plug chop......not sure im familiar with that term and just want to be clear on it....

Plug chops are essentially when you are driving along, say around 5000rpm, hit the kill switch (without returning to idle), coast to the side of the road and look at your plugs to determine their color. I haven't done it yet, more out of nervousness, but hope to this year.

Read this article on Basscliff's site.

Yep, except ignore RPM's :)

Plug chops are all about air/fuel mixture at certain throttle openings, so you'll need various positions marked on your right grip with masking tape so you can chop at the different throttle openings.

Alternatively, you can get a Gunson Colortune and do a lot of it in the garage :)

Thanks Pete. Though one question, how well does that colortune work as I read on here that some folks don't get any good readings from it. Is it maybe a bike specific thing?

To be 100% honest I haven't actually had time to use mine yet... but I can see how it would be difficult on some bikes. They do provide a periscope type tube with it to make it easier to see though.

If you go by the various Youtube videos around the place it should be very handy.

Cross fingers I might get to find out this weekend... I intend to post video when I do finally get to try it!

I've only used genuine so far myself, but of course I haven't done a lot yet, but I have seen it said to stick with genuine... never used those aftermarket ones though so can't really comment too much...

I got my tank back!!!!!!!!

Cool, except scrolling back through I can't see what you were getting done to it... just primed? Or lined as well? And is that a dent towards the back on the left hand side or just the photo? Small bit of body filler should sort that if it is a dent :)

Just sandblasted......and yes its a dent.... I'm planning an filling it in along with the badge mounting areas.....

Aaah cool, it shouldn't be too hard to sort that out. Once you get it prep'd and cleaned well the body filler should take care of it... just some sanding to get it smooth and you should be all set :)

The spark plugs......and they are that dark...its not just the lighting

The points......very clean....surprisingly enough...

Well I haven't done anything with the bike in a about a week now......I got the exhaust and all the boots for the carbs......I just need the time to install everything......

I was reading the manual and on the 425 there should be an access door to the oil pump screen......there doesn't seem to be one on mine.....anyone else know anything about this?
