I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

1981 GS1100E new headers/muffler pipe discolor

Ok I finally got my bike with new cam chain set and bike is running once again. I installed a new Delkevic 4 into 1 system. I noticed cyclinder1 is not dis coloring like the other 3. It is also considerable cooler in temp. Bike idles and runs fine. Is this a carb fine tuning issue?

How bad is it? Pics are needed. I'm assuming it's chrome. All chrome will discolor to some extent. How far does the discoloring extend? Right up at the engine is a mighty hot place. Is it blue or gold? Welcome to chrome headers!

Are you sure the cylinder is firing? Check from a cold start, and carefully touch the pipe and compare to others. A squirt bottle with water can be used also, after the engine gets warmer. It's also possible that there is a sync issue, but it seems unlikely to cause such a drastic result.

The color is gold, no color on number 1. I put plug in boot set by top cylinder, weak spark it looks like.Hard to tell out in the sun. Cable has some small cracks where it enters boot. Plug is a little dark but just a bit wet. Good plug [NODE="4"]Groups[/NODE] is light gray. I may need new pug wires. What is a good brand and what type. How will they connect to coils. Not taking tank off right now. THX

Unscrew the plug cap, cut 1/4" off the wire and reinstall

Did that no change. Might as well order new dyna coils and source some plug wires. Will the Dyna coils mount with out major issues ?

There are a number of older threads discussing changing the wires. Basically, they can typically be pulled out of the coils using a little persuasion. A fat straight, or Tee, pin, can be inserted between the wire and the coil body. Spray some WD-40 on the pin and work the pin around. Then pull out the pin and stick it back in at another spot around the wire and repeat. Once you work some WD-40 down into the wire passage, the wire can be pulled straight out. There is a spike down into the passage, so be careful to not damage it. The OEM wire is 7mm copper core. No resistor wire, the plug cap has a resistor already. And no resistor plugs either.

1 to 4 plug leads measures 33 to 34 Kohms and so does 2 and 3. Primary wires measure 3.4 ohms for both. So it should be firing yes, but pipe still not getting hot. Plug center electrode not measuring correct compared to good plug. Getting new champion N2C non resistor plugs.

The coils must be firing as the other cylinder is working.... My guess is that your plug wires are split & somewhere along the length the spark is "leaking" out the side of the wire to the head. If you run it at night and wiggle them around you might be able to see the fireworks!

Nessism's method above is your fix but if you really want to go to Dyna you need the Green ones. They mount ok but you may have to change the spacers around so they don't rattle against the tank. They are tight compared to stock.

There is also a possibility that this is something to do with the idle circuit in the carbs.... Does the cylinder get hot when you run it at higher revs?

Delkovic are stainless & they do discolor just the same... that's normal. :)

Where are you guys finding non resistor plus for my GS1100 at, NGK B8ES or B7ES........only found a few amazon but 7 dats out. Local stores have nothing or any other brand ?
