A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I swear I've spent half an hour to an hour on and off today just standing in the garage looking at it... sweeeeeet... love it! It couldn't have come out closer to what I wanted... absolutely spot on! Called Tranzac this avo to let him know how good it is too, I'm a happy man this evening! :dancing::clap::lol:

Sorry for the delay on the pic's... it actually got delivered later on today due to some towing issues. It's a father/son outfit doing the towing and the son's ute carked it on the way to Toowoomba this morning and the son is the one who took it to Tranzac for me initially. Apparently the father told the son not to get a modern 5L V8 in the WB ute and to go old tried and true technology, but he didn't listen and chewed out his distributer shaft... the father's Chevvy 350 is going very strongly in his with no dramas... I must say they're both nice utes!

But I digress...

That ceramic coating will darken a bit once it's up and running, but it's a real nice finish, and there's no special care aside from not using abrasives on it, just suds and turtle wax type polish or similar.

He very kindly put allen head bolts everywhere too which matches up nicely with the allen head bolts from Z1 which is great. The only thing I'll think about doing is painting the rear mounting bracket.

I also had a close look at the front mudguard clearance tonight, and no way is the stock guard going in there without whacking the pipes, so definitely need to find an alternative and get a fork brace. No urgent rush on that at the moment.

Now it's time to start putting it back together so I can see if the ignition is fixed...

Hey Pete, That looks AWESOME. You should be real proud of this bike.

Keep us up to date on the electronic ignition setup.

Cheers

Cheers Don, I gotta say I'm absolutely stoked! I had no idea I could end up with such a work of art attached to my bike... happy as a pig in the proverbial for sure! If I can get the rest of it done to the same quality, I'll be proud as Punch :D

I should be back on the ignition testing in the next couple of weeks if all goes to plan and I'll make sure updates are provided :)

Looks great Pete! Is the heat guard far enough forward? I would be standing around looking at it too lol

Cheers Josh! I noticed the heat shield doesn't go as far forward as I thought it should, but that's not a huge drama for me at the moment. I'm still contemplating making up a fancy one down the track. Right now I just wanna hear it run :D

My main concern with the shield was if my wife gets on the back I don't want her leg to burn, and it will stop that for sure.

It might be okay if you change the rear sets? But still looks awesome, hurry up and put the tank and seat on it!

Patience grasshopper! Not that I have any either... I'm resisting the urge to go and do just that, but I'm gonna see if I can get some time on Saturday maybe to get some bits and pieces on it. I especially need to see if my duck tail sits nicely with the seat or not to see what else I need to do to it.

I need to get the carbs and pods on too...

Forgot to say I got two compliments on the bike today too! One from the towing guy and one from a construction worker doing a reno job on a neighbour's house. He's doing up an older Harley Electra Glide and commented on mine when he saw it being unloaded off the ute... said it was looking good with the chrome and pipe there :)

Get it to run, listen to it idle perfectly and beautifully for a few minutes, THEN get the 'comfort' stuff installed! I don't know how you do it. Your patience must come in 50-gallon drums.

Mate I wish it was that simple... I gotta get another meter to check dwell angle before I fire it up next time so I can see if the home made ignitor is working with the HEI modules correctly or not, so it won't fire up for a couple of weeks yet.

In the meantime, I can stick the other bits on and see how things are looking so I at least have something to do.

My patience has been wearing thin with the bike away, but now that it's back I at least have stuff to do on it to keep me occupied and distract me from the fact that it ain't actually on the road yet

Nah its crap, no good at all...probably best you abandon this entire project. You can leave it on the kerb at my place, I will get "rid" of it for you...

Wow. That is beautiful metal work. You should be very proud of this bike when it is all together!

Now that is a true custom exhaust........Very nice Pete and seeing the bike semi-whole inspires me and I'm sure others who have their projects in 100 pieces with no light at the end of the tunnel to keep going!

I had a full exhaust system with the same coating on a Buell XB9 I used to race. It never discolored, only lost a little of it's lusture or shine a little which I put down to heat.

It's amazing what you can do with a few old toilet roll tubes!

Mark

That exhaust is something else Pete. Truly nice looking. I completly understand the staring thing.
