Right, so, the jets arrived this morning so I got them in before the safety certificate guy showed up, so it drops back down to idle reasonably well now, except that those pilots are too big and it's too rich now... another pair on the way

Anyway, he had no dramas with anything at all and was even happy to let the first ride be mine and didn't test ride it at all :D

He seemed quite impressed with what I'd done as he's a middle aged fella who likes the old stuff too, so the brake line and headlight never even got a mention aside from making sure they worked... nice :D

So, given they're predicting rain for the rest of the week, I thought I'd duck out and get her registered this avo... that was until I called the RACQ to get CTP insurance sorted in advance...

I have to take all the paperwork into an RACQ office to organise the CTP insurance, then go back home, get the bike, and ride to DOT to get it registered.

I didn't have time to do all that in the end today, so even though I have the safety certificate she's not registered just yet.

He also did the dual seat conversion compliance plate, so that's all good as well.

And the day wasn't a complete waste, I got more done on those bits I'm not telling about yet ;)

I really want to get her registered this week, but I have some of tomorrow off so I can take my wife into a job interview, and they're predicting rain anyway, so that's probably out.

They think Friday may be a bit clearer, so I might try it then... although probably pushing my luck with time off work this week...

I really don't want to ride in the rain just yet as the tyres aren't scrubbed in and I just won't have that level of confidence back just yet...

Tens years of dreaming and working = total payoff!

Way to go, Pete! Looks great, sounds great, runs great!

Haha too true! Thanks mate, definitely stoked :D

She'll run a bit better once I get the jetting sorted, but that'll be some fun once she's registered and I can get some km's under those tyres :D

Thanks mate, I'm quite surprised at just how many are following this thread and it's awesome to see the moral support and encouragement along the way :D

30,000+ views, I don't see how one would ever think people were following your build?? ;)

Pete, I'm REALLY happy for you!

Pete, I'm REALLY happy for you!

 Last time I looked at that it had only just topped 20000! Wow :D

Cheers Dale! And thanks again for your help on the paint job, you guys rock :D

Congratulations!!!! The bike looks (and sounds) awesome!!! A couple little details here and there that can get taken care of pretty easily. For now concentrate on refreshing your riding skills!!

Seriously awesome job on the rebuild.

Great news, Pete. The worst is over.
Now all you have to do is deal with the rego drones and you're on the way.
I bet that train ride becomes a bike ride more often than you claim..

Thanks Tim Tom! Cannot wait to get the rego done and start riding again :D

Thanks heaps for your paint scheme mock up again too, as you can see by the almost final product it helped immensely :D

Indeed it is Leigh! Would've like to have gotten her rego'd yesterday but I guess I'll just have to use some more of that 10 year patience

Quite possibly true on the train comment there ;)

Oh, and thanks for your paint mock up too!

Now I'm sitting here chanting rain rain go away...

Bad luck Pete, shocking rain outside, looks like its set in for the day. Keep dry and upright.;)

Bah! It was nothing.
10 minutes work to help you visualise how the bike will look?
A pleasure to do it.

27 here yesterday and I had the day off.
Do you know how good that cold beer at Flinders pub was?

Yes indeed! Didn't stop all bloody day until I was home with a beer... ended up cleaning the house instead of getting rego... how excitement!

At this stage I'll work from home on Friday as they're predicting only a chance of a shower as opposed to showers all day, so hopefully I can get it done then. Itching to get her registered so I can ride any time I damn well like!

Two words Leigh... shut up :p

I would put other words in the middle but they don't go well on this forum :p

I at least got a nice cold beer here at home today... and I believe it didn't quite make it to 19 degrees either...

Roll on Friday... and hope the weather helps me out!

You two discussing 27 degree weather, are not making me feel any warmer while I pour some Scotch and look at the 29 degrees on my thermometer.:D

Charlie G

I think that was a tongue in cheek comment from Charlie G....
Congrats Pete, if I haven't said so already, been hectic here.
and snowing! :(

Charlie G

Mmmmm Scotch! What variety Charlie? Like me a good Scotch ;)

Aren't they using Celsius down under?
27 would be 80.6 F to us.

Daniel

Yes indeed! Got a feeling young Charlie was yanking my chain there :p

Thanks mate! So close yet so far... one non-rainy day on Friday and I'll be laughin'!

Snow? Man you can have that! Definitely give that a big swerve

That's right, 27 proper degrees :)

Fingers crossed for you, Pete.
Queensland: Perfect one day.. hehe

Hahaha thanks Leigh, but didn't you hear the new slogan? Raining one day, flooded the next? :p

I decided I'd better do something about my back protector tonight.

I got a jacket and back protector for our wedding anniversary earlier this year, but the back protector is a generic one that needs to be trimmed to fit my jacket.

Left side is what's in the jacket to use as a template, right side is the protector:

This is how it sits in the jacket and you can just make out the shape of the pocket for it:

Overlaid:

Shape traced:

Just used the box cutter I used for the seat foam and it was nice and easy:

Cut to shape:

And ready to go:

And I also dug out and cleaned up my old disc lock which still works:

Probably should get a more modern one though that has the fancy cord you can loop over your 'bar so you don't forget it's on... and this one was bought in about 1998...

Then I decided to give everything a quick once over again to make sure it's all good, and in doing so I found a bit of moisture around the T piece feeding fuel to the carbs... turns out I hadn't got the fuel hose down quite far enough and it looks like it worked it's way up a little even with the clamp on it...

I had to take the breather filter off to get in there again...

Best I could get but it doesn't really show the issue...

And after much fiddling and fluffing around I finally managed to get it seated down properly and if you look closely in the little mirror you can sort of see it... should've used that mirror in the first place!

That's the mirror you get in the POR 15 tank repair kit, has been handy on a number of occassions now :)

And all back together...

I got all my paperwork filled out tonight too so hopefully the weather holds out tomorrow and I can go get her registered :D

Nice, Pete.
Here's hoping for a sunny Friday.
The FZ1 is finally in my name after much wasted time dealing with dull minded drones.
