A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1981 GS850G, needle jet circuit help? Bike won't rev past 3k or so

Those filters are just steel mesh....I guess they’ll keep bugs out. Those filters have been known to cause headaches because that inner ridge blocks an air jet or two; so check that. I’ve neverUsed them, but a lot of people have and usually recommend against them. APE Racing pods are lower priced than the k&ns, but work well.
against those, I’ve

Very embarrassing !! I owe you an apology. Never meant to mislead anyone. That being said, I've never seen one heat range make any noticeable difference. I'd have thought you could have put any, available heat range in there & it would have not made the difference you're seeing. Glad you got it going & hopefully the filters will work well for you also. Looks like you're getting there. Keep it up.

May I make a suggestion? :-k

While you are waiting for those "filters", fold a shop rag in half, drape it over the carb intakes. Use band clamps or zip-ties on the outer carbs to hold the rag in place. Proceed with all your jetting and tuning.

When the "filters" get there, toss them in the trash can. Your shop rag will provide better filtration and predictability for tuning.

It most certainly wasn't the move of one heat range that made a difference - more likely the old plugs were fouled, defective, or counterfeit.
I've had the exact same experience of an engine burst into life with new plugs, where with the old plugs it was a pig to start, even though they looked fine.

Couldn't agree more. Being cheap doesn't agree with CV carbs. Your bike will never run well with those.

They are cheap, and I figure any leaks that they have between housing and filter I can fill with some silicone?

Nope. RTV silicone will deteriorate in the presence of gasoline vapor. Even the intake side gets enough vapor to make RTV fall apart.

APE pods look and perform comparable to K&N, and are half the cost (still about $75).

So the filters came in, and the bike revs and drives just fine. I dont notice any hesitation or backfiring at all while test driving it.

Honestly I just wanted some cheap filters to test the bike, I still have some work before it's totally done.

Could you guys link the ape pods? Cant really seem to find em, though I might just be blind!

Unrelated, but does anyone know where to get a vacuum hose from petcock to carb? All the sizes I'm finding have way too big of an outer diameter to fit.

single layer of red shop rag is sufficient..two may be too thick and actually induce a bit of choke. I use 1 layer when tuning with the airbox off..basically youre tricking te carb to think its getting the engineered in amount of required...let me say that again... REQUIRED restriction to operate correctly.
