So I was wondering if I could take the lower end of a 1982 Gs750 e or t basically from the block /transmission down ward. Then install the 850 head and cylinders on top of that . As I?m trying to turn the 850 into a caf? racer and am having a hard time finding a spoke wheel to accommodate all the modifications that I?ve made. I put 07 gsxr 1000 front forks On the bike. Trying to make something very much different than anything out there. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Just want to change drive Train from shaft to chain as this makes swingarm options more available as well as I?m trying to lighten up the bike.

the 82 750 is a 16valve TSCC engine. All of the 850s are 8 valve. I know that mostly has to do with the head and above, but I've gotta think they're different in other ways. Hmm. Got me curios too. I'm sure someone will be along and give you a definitive yay or nay.

Here someone on one of the FB Pages is selling a complete 750 TCSS engine if your interested. It only leaks when it's running.

The 850 top end will fit on an earlier 8-valve 750, but not a 16-valve unit.

So Got any idea of what year I should be looking for in a 750 8 valve

I don?t think that a chain drive swing arm can simply be swapped into a shaftie without mods.
I seem to recall a thread from years ago when someone started down that road.

Yeah hmm,I'll have to look into that. I?d planed on buying a rear swing arm from an 1982 gs750 or an sv 650 might need do so welling to accommodate a Mono shock. then seeing what I?d have to do to mod it Bearings or some sort of axle might do the trick with the few extra bushings. Doesn?t seem to all supper complicated. Like I said I want acustom bike that I built with my own two hands. With the reward of having done it all myself with a little advice and help along the way.

I had missed the "shaft to chain swap" thing in the first post.

It's not just a matter of swapping the swing arm. They mount completely different, you will have to modify the frame, as well. The mounting points are different, as well as the pivot methods. The shafty swing arm pivots in individual tapered roller bearings, so the shaft can pass between them, with the u-joint in line with the swing arm pivot. The chain swing arm uses needle bearings on a pivot that runs completely across the width of the frame.

Ok came up with a different game plan. So the rear differential is aluminum. So I plan on getting it oxidized to match the front forks as there the gsxr 07 1000 . Did the Cognito Moto Front end conversation they will Also make the rear hub for a spoked rear wheel but it?s a 3 to 6 month lead time. I have to send them the whole rear swingarm. Also about $900 just to manufacture the rear hub. But a black wheel with gold spokes will look pretty freaking sweet and super retro. Will most likely do the same thing with the front wheel. As I?m running into a lot of issues trying to convert something into what it was not meant to be. Working with what I got Seems to be the best idea. I know for a fact no one will have a bike like this when I?m done. So the frame will go to powder coat in the next week or two then I?ll start regasketing the engine. All in all should be a pretty sweet caf? racer when it?s done. Might take a little bit longer than I previously anticipated. Think I?m also going to customize a tank for this build project as well. Definitely going to take something from 79 or 78 make some welding modifications to the frame. As that year seems to have the indentions in the tank like a caf? racer. Also have to rebuild the carbs as they leak like crazy.

There was someone here that was working on a spoke wheel shafty project using a later model Suzuki cruiser rear hub that used spokes and the same driven spline part. You might want to dig around in the archives looking for pertinent information.

Without referring to any other sources, I believe the Madura 700 had a drum brake, the 1200 had a disk.

There are other bikes, like the Intruder 800 that had spokes and a shaft, but I believe that was also a drum brake. I think the larger Intruder (later the Boulevard series) had spokes and disks, but some of the larger ones had drive assemblies with 8 pins, instead of the 6 found on the GS.
