    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1982 GS450E --> Fixing it up, carb boot broke!

Hey everyone! Let me start by saying hello! I'm looking forward to being a GS450E owner. I just bought mine for $35 from a tow yard a friend manages, and I'm hoping to bring it to life!


Anyways, I got the beast running on starter fluid, showing me that there was hope for this beast yet. I went ahead and got all the way down to the carbs and what not... and DOH! One of the carb boots going from the carb to the head broke!

So I'm not quite sure where to locate a new one. I may just epoxy the current one to repair it.


My questions for all you wise GS450E owners:
1- Where would I locate new carb boots? I couldn't find them on bikebandit.com's microfiche of parts

2- What would be the best adhesive to use in repairing the carb boots?
 
I have not found them yet either. Hopefully some one will have some ideas for us.
 
You have to order them from a Suzuki dealer. They cannot be repaired, and there is no aftermarket replacement. Fortunately, you only need two... :)

The boots are on the Cylinder Head fiche. Don't forget the o-rings:

28 .O RING, INTAKE PIPE 09280-40010 (replaces 09280-40003) 2 $1.96

You might as well get new boots for the carb/airbox as well -- these are definitely in sad shape too. Fortunately, they're cheap. They're on the air cleaner fiche:

This is where I most of my factory parts for my bikes. If one fell apart they all should be replaced. Welcome and good luck.

Now I just have to get some tires on it, get the title from the tow yard (I didn't want to persue it until the beast ran), shake down a few more things (the fuel mixture) and it should be ready to shred!


Are there fuel mixture screws on this beast I just couldn't find?
 
Welcome to the forum and nice score!

The mixture screws are sealed from the factory, so have a look at the GS450 carb rebuild guide by Flaming Chainsaws on BassCliff's site to see how to get into them.

One thing though... are you sure that's an '82? That tail piece looks completely wrong for the '82's. What's the date of manufacture?

I recently discovered mine's an '82 but the date of manufacture is 10/81, so for the last 12 or 13 years since I bought it I thought it was an '81 model... and yes it can make a huge difference in buying parts.
 
Okay I just checked it out using this suzuki vin decoder.

The bike is clearly stamped 82 and says 82 suzuki GS450e, however the decoder claims it's from 83. Would the 83 look that much different???
 
Oh yeah, and an actual link would be rad. Searching for a few combinations of keywords did not turn up what you told me to look for...
 
The give away of the model year for me was the tail piece.

So yeah, there's significant differences there. I think they also did some big changes with things like carbs as well.
