    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bought the clymer manual for my bike and in the valve clearance adjustment section. I’m reading through following steps. I’ve just taken off the breather cover, and underneath there are two metal meshes, what looks like a carburetor float even though I know that’s not what it is and a passageway leading down the back of the motor between the carburetors that is full of oil, do I need to drain my oil before I do this? Stupid question I know but I’ve never done this before. Thank you for the help
on top of that, is there anything else I should know? any weird parts or things to look out for? other than that I’m just following my manual, thanks
 
That hose plugs in to the top center of the air filter box. The oil vapor are routed through the air box, through the carbs and burned in the cyl. then sent out through the exhaust... Roughly the same thing as a PCV valve on a car or truck.
 
Be careful with the valve cover bolts. They like to break off easily.
 
Also the breather had what looks like extra fine steel wool jammed in it underneath the gasket, is that stock? Should I put the steel wool back in? Is it not steel wool and something else entirely?
 
Yes that stuff is supposed to be there. 4 pieces, in 2 places. Catches oil and lets it Drip back down into the valve cover. Just letting the vapors through.

It's not supposed to be fine steel wool. That would be too dense and just plug the passage. The stock mesh stuff is more like chore boy scouring pad that's porus enough to let gasses through, but catch the oil as Dgates1 mentioned.

Do you have an air box or are you running pod filters?
