I hope that the 1981 GS1100 stator covers are the same as the 1982 GS1100.

Now I still need oil and air filters so that I can try to start it...

I did a very quick push of the starter button (like .0000001 secs) and the starter does work. But everything else does not... Why does only the headlight and starter work? My first reaction was checking the fusebox. The turn signal fuse was blown but that's all. I'll try replacing that fuse and see what happens.

Sounds like time to start wire tracing if you haven't gotten this figured out yet. Start with a Volt meter and check to see if you have power coming out of the fuse box for the circuit you are trying to get working. Check your manual for the wiring schematic to see which color wire goes for what circuit. Did this to figure out where best place to hook up my duaneage RR sense wire. If your meter is a Volt/Ohm meter, check that you have continuity across your fuse box connections. Check all your connections for the tail light cluster. My brake and turn signals weren't working on my GS700EF and found that the bullet connectors under the seat that went back weren't making good contacts. Need to replace with spade type for more positive connection in the future.

The tail light does not work either . The bulb on the bottom is blown but the bulb on top is still good...

Looks like this bike has some electrical problems. I'll look into these problems later on when I get it running.

You know the bottom bulb is for the license plate I believe right? That's why if you notice there is that molded white plastic above it to isolate the light from the brake lens.

I can probably do that... Now that the engine is out of the frame. We'll see tomorrow.

Was going to suggest since you had the engine out to suspend it from the grab handles on the back (does yours have em?) with some heavy duty tie downs if you have em. Not sure if those are sturdy enough though. Suspend it from the rafters in the garage :) Or maybe around the back part of the frame. Maybe for future reference since it looks like you are already done with that part.

Tach drive. Thanks JackB!

Switched out the silver sprocket cover for the black.

And same for the clutch cover .

When the SS bolts get here, it will really POP! Now that I mention it, I forgot to order exhaust studs from Z1. I guess I'll take a look around McMaster-Carr.

I was going to check the sparkplugs too but guess what? I don't have a deep well socket for it. And I don't even know what size socket I need! Who knows what size it is?

That clear 1/4" hose will be good for the vent tubes and vacuum line but you will still need a short section of 5/16" fuel line for the gasoline.

Thought so... I checked the last night and the fuel port from the petcock is much bigger than 1/4"......

Pulled the bike out of the garage, look back, and this is what I see :). Getting closer...

Anyways....

I shouldn't have painted the side cover yet.

That stator cover was busted and repaired from someone... Got another stator cover on the way! I also switched out the silver sprocket cover for the black one.

Polished the oil cap. Looks much better in person. This camera picks all of the imperfections.

I have an awkward, funny, but successful story to tell you guys.

You all know that my dad owns and plays in a band right? Well, we were asked to play at a friend's wedding. This girl I know went up to talk on stage. I had a crush on her in middle school (still do :o). She was wearing high heels, walked down the stage, and tripped. Guess what? I was standing near the stage and caught her. But here's the thing, my hands were ummm... All over her chest :oops::oops:. Man that was such a weird but good feeling. Everyone saw that.... The wedding lasted for another 4 hours and the whole time, I swear to god that I just wanted to get up and leave. Well, after the wedding was over, I went over to the car to go home. And there she was standing next to the exit. Told her I was sorry but she said it was OK. I was going to go to the car but she grabbed my hand, pulled me toward her and gave me a kiss. I was like what's this for? Of course I didn't say it out loud. But it turned out that she felt the same way for me. Got myself a date for Saturday night :).

ANYWAYS! That got a little personal. So, another thumbs up for Z1 Enterprises. Got my bolt set, gaskets, and fuel line. I'll try them out tomorrow.

Sounds like you better hurry up and finish that motorcycle so you take her for a ride on it.

And do you think she tripped by accident? :D

AAAAHHHHHH...young love. Have fun on the date and yea, finish that bike so you can taker her out for a ride.

It's possible that priorities are a-changing and the bike will take longer to get done ......

Oh man! What if I didn't catch her?

Thanks! I would be looking forward to that ride.

Priorities haven't changed at all. I haven't been more motivated to finish this bike! And the girl's also a wrencher! :D:D:D

Let's get back on topic. I gotta go out and buy some oil. I will try looking for Rotella 15w-40 (right?) but so far I couldn't find it anywhere. I may settle with Castrol 10w-40 oil. $3.99 a bottle and I think I would need 4 of them. And I do know about the Energy Conserving thingy.
