Damn Dude! Thats what progress looks like!! Thats great you were able peel the bed liner away like that. You'll be able make it shine up pretty easy. Or just do a repaint job on it .

I'd go with pods, you already have the 4-1, might as well go with pods. BTW that exhaust looks like it'll clean up great.

That motor is pretty blown up though. Were you able to put the good set of cylinders on it? Or are you trying to start it as is?

Edit: Most AGM's ship with a charge, though it is not a full one. Best to put it on a tender for a few hours just the be sure.
Yup, I'll get some APE pod filters soon. I'm just going to leave the engine alone. I'd rather not make it worse.

I don't have a battery tender... Back to the shop for me.

Have a crack at a cut& polish or even cut & clearcoat as the base colour looks to be all there. Bed liner, im not quite sure why they went for that, but oh well.

I agree, swap the barrels, measure and spec everything twice and try for the best, your current motor is fragged anyhow, so if the new barrels grenade too your not going to be much worse off.
Actually, some of the red paint was peeled off. But not much. I think I can just sand off all of the all clear coat then spray some more clear coat to make things even out...

Those pieces off the bottom of the jug got whipped around in the crankcase so I'm sure there is some damage down there.
You're most likely right about that. The pieces are probably sitting at the bottom of the oil pan by now. The engine did turn over freely by hand.

Got the battery on my way. Should be here this week.

I just noticed this. Thought it was more truck bed liner.
DSCN3613.jpg

WTF!? Someone put sandpaper there, the one with adhesive on the back.
DSCN3614.jpg

While I was in the area, I tried to tighten down the right side mirror. Nope. The mirror mount is stripped.
DSCN3615.jpg

But at least the gas tank is clean!
DSCN3618.jpg

Not so great on the outside though...
DSCN3623.jpg

The whole clutch perch is missing. But the cable is still there.
DSCN3624.jpg

See that red wire under the red 10A fuse?
DSCN3628.jpg

It leads to this.
DSCN3629.jpg

There are a few wires that have been disconnected. And that wire above. So I will consult the manual. Oh yeah. I got a manual in paper form. WOW!

I tried to take the engine out of the frame but I couldn't do it. Even half of an 1100 engine is heavy as ****! I'll leave it there for now.

What the heck happened to that tank? Good luck.
I know that some of the clear coat peeled off when I was removing the truck bed liner. But this was already there. And some spots have been sanded.

EDIT: Just found out that this red wire is for an accessory. I'll remove it.

Got your work cut out for you on this one FC! Get into it and good luck :D

I'm sure once you're done you'll love the end result though, and I'm sure that tank's nothing a bit of elbow grease and paint can't fix...

I don't think I can fix this gas tank without sanding it all off. Here's what I'll do. During the winter, I'll sand off all the paint on my parts to be painted. Use my school's autobody shop. Primer Spray it red. Get the decals for $40. Then lot's of clear coat. Cut and buff. So I'll be getting a paint job done from me for only about $60 :).

I got a few parts ordered from Parts Shark. Just some nuts and bolts and a few rubber pieces. Now... Back to the wiring harness...

EDIT: It's a HUGE pain to be working on the bike without a centerstand. No centerstand because of the exhaust I assume I think I might pick up one of those rear wheel stands that I always see at the track.

Considering that it doesn't need to be a perfect fit and designed for speedy wheel changeouts like a $170 pitbull stand, you can get away with one of these badboys. I used one (against my will) in Texas and it didn't drop the CBR. I won't give it anymore credit than that. It worked.

That is seriously lazy of you !
Yes it is haha! I was going to swap my stock R/R for the duaneage R/R today...

Here it is side by side.
DSCN3695.jpg

But then someone crimped on butt connectors. So I'd have to cut that off and crimp on bullet connectors . I'll save that for another day.

Thanks for the link! I may have to go get one of those...

But even without the centerstand or rear stand, I was able to get the front wheel off.

Need to bring it to the shop, get the beads seated, and then get some air in there. A manual foot pump won't work LOL!!!
DSCN3705.jpg

Bearings looks to have been replaced recently.
DSCN3708.jpg

Plenty of tread. Rubbed my hand on the tires and it feels very sticky :).
DSCN3709.jpg

The rear sprocket looks to be very big... Also, does anyone know what kind of shocks those are? There are two springs on one shock.
DSCN3710.jpg

And the carbs aren't looking so great. Either someone rattlecanned it or the factory paint is peeling off. No matter. They'll be dipped in Berrymans then put back together with new o-rings anyways. I wish I kept my VM29's....
DSCN3698.jpg

Then I stuck this sticker on just because it looked cool.
DSCN3714.jpg

Yeah... Slow progress. Waiting on parts and stuff. I looked over the bike again and noticed that there are no chrome parts except for the headlight ring. Awesome! While I wait for parts, I'll just polish the footpegs by hand. Then I have to go buy some paint stripper and spray it all over the rims.

Yeah, those look exactly the same besides the color. How do you like them? Any idea who makes them?

I forgot to pick this fairing up when I brought the bike over. So I picked it up today. For some reason, it was VERY hard to remove the bedliner off of the fairing compared to the other parts. I think this is a Tracy Series II fairing. I am undecided whether or not I'll use the fairing...

More truck bed liner and mold!
DSCN3719.jpg

Halfway done.
DSCN3724.jpg

And just about finished. Still some bed liner on it. I kinda ruined the paint job. I was able to get the sticker off of the windshield though.
DSCN3746.jpg

Bad pictures of it mounted up.
DSCN3733.jpg

DSCN3735.jpg

I was also able to get some air in the tires. No leaks. Also wire wheeled the brake rotor washers and bolts.
DSCN3737.jpg

Battery got here today. It's an AGM and measured at 12.94v out of the box!
DSCN3731.jpg

On the bike. There's my + battery cable with a missing connector. Still waiting for the other cable I ordered.

Here is a bent shift rod. I ordered an OEM one.
DSCN3743.jpg

And this just looked wrong. So I ordered the rubber grommet for the seat lock.
DSCN3744.jpg

Thought I'd share this. Lots of info there! And 31,000 miles on the frame.
DSCN3742.jpg

And my little part of the garage. Such a small table.
DSCN3745.jpg

Nice to see you sort though some of the details. Do you have a plan of what to fix first or just sort of winging it? If not I would suggest at least making a crude order.

For example no sense in making the body perfect if ultimately the engine will never run. This is a pretty big project to build a bike from boxes and a good plan will greatly help I'd think.

As always keep up the good work, and keep learning as you do it. Thats the way to go!

Yeah, I know. Right now, I'm not going to spend another dime until I can afford the running engine. But I have nothing to do right now so I'm just trying to see if something can be done with the body. I think I'll polish the footpegs and swingarm... by hand! That will keep me busy. And while I have the rear wheel off, might as well try to remove the red paint.

Here's a comparison between my old + battery cable and the new one. That's why I bought another one instead of making one. It has the protective rubber boots and a wire for the fuse box.
DSCN3759.jpg

This is a really bad picture but I had to do it quick since I didn't want to kill the battery. Headlight, hi-beam, and hi-beam gauge light works.
DSCN3761.jpg

I did a very quick push of the starter button (like .0000001 secs) and the starter does work. But everything else does not... Why does only the headlight and starter work? My first reaction was checking the fusebox. The turn signal fuse was blown but that's all. I'll try replacing that fuse and see what happens.

The tail light does not work either . The bulb on the bottom is blown but the bulb on top is still good...
DSCN3760.jpg

Looks like this bike has some electrical problems. I'll look into these problems later on when I get it running.

Started polishing the swingarm. This is what 10 mins of polishing by hand gives you. Still have a lot more polishing to do!
DSCN3763.jpg

I'm not sure how to get the swingarm out without a centerstand so it will be tough to polish the rest of it.

I took the engine out from the frame. It was dead weight anyways .
DSCN3768.jpg

DSCN3769.jpg

I simply removed all of the bolts holding the engine down and the wires it was connected to then laid the bike on the side. It just slipped out nice and easy. Not a scratch on me or the bike :). Then I dragged it 5 feet across the garage floor to where it is now.

Sorry for the boring updates. It's just a way to keep track of what I do everyday...

Can you fashion up a little stand for the rear of the bike so you can remove that swingarm? A jack with 2x4s or something?

I can probably do that... Now that the engine is out of the frame. We'll see tomorrow.
