Started polishing the swingarm.

This is what it looked like before.

And after.

Obviously not done yet. Towards the rear of the swingarm, there was clear coat or something which was un-polishable. I'll deal with that later. All polished by hand using Mother's and an old T-shirt. And the swingarm was still on the frame...

You mean use 00 steel wool to apply the Mother's instead of using an old t-shirt? I'll give it a try.

Sold the stator cover and complete bottom end today. Getting closer to my new engine .

Polished the exhaust. Pics make it look kinda crappy though...

Goes under the engine. So if I want to drain the oil or change the oil filter, I have to take the exhaust off . Well... I guess there's more cornering clearance .

Yes, I have an engine source. The same guy I bought the bike from has a running 1982 GS1100EZ engine. And I already have carbs from the 1983 engine.

The exhaust looks great! Elbow grease can do wonders for your bike. Looking forward to the post that has a new engine in it

Thanks! At this point, I have nothing to do besides clean things up. I have been thinking about polishing the footpegs and it's brackets but then I would think that there is too much bling on the rear end...

I do have good news. I'm getting very close to being able to afford the new engine . I hope by the beginning of July...

Cool man! I know the feeling of having nothing else to work on while you wait for parts to come in or be ordered. When I was rebuilding the Triumph car there was a period of about 3 months where all I did was sand the old paint off the body and repair rust. Simply because I couldn't afford the trans repair parts yet.

I've been there but July isn't too far off. You'll get it done. And by the time the engine comes in the rest of the bike will look awesome.

Haha! That reminds me... I'm going to have to tear into my carbs. I wonder if the PO rejetted it? The bike has a 4-1 exhaust and had pod filters...

I'm going to order an o-ring kit from Mr. Robert Barr. It was rebuilt by the PO and looks to be clean inside but I'll just do it for the peace of mind. And something to do .

Some parts did come in today but it only kept me busy for an hour. Part Shark is a great dealer!

Just some bolts and washers.

Old one on top. It's bent.

Installed!

The washers went on the inside of the headlight bucket. And these screws means that I can finally mount up the 8" train headlight!

Seat lock.

And with the rubber grommet. Looks much better.

Yes, I'm really sorry about that. It was too much of a hassle to ship something that big and heavy . So I had a local come buy it. So very sorry!

Bought a clutch lever. It's from a 1978 GS1000 but I looked at the parts fiche and it looks exactly the same as the one from a GS1100ED. And I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work . Fits a 7/8" handlebar and the clutch cable has the same ends.

Paint stripper in a can!

Sprayed that all over the rim being extra careful to not get any on the tire then washed it all off with a garden hose. This is some good stuff and at only $3 a can! Need one more can to do the rear rim...

If you were closer then sure! I actually had fun doing this... . But then I'd probably get tired after the 3rd rim .
