cleaning the rim 2

cleaning the rim 2

Well spent a bit more time with the rims tonight, a bit more stripper, some sanding, wire wheel, and a dremel cut off wheel....

and I have clean rims, no tires on anymore, and ready for painting...

.

nope, tires are not ordered, I need funds....LOL

I also have to see if I am going to mount them myself, or find a place to do that...everyone wants so much money.....so I have to see...

going to give the rims a good once over still, make sure I have them as clean as possible, and try my hand at painting them.....hope it turns out....

Clean_Gas_Tank

Clean_Gas_Tank

Well I washed down the rims tonight, leaving them to dry, and possibly try to paint them tomorrow, we shall see...

So I had some paint stripper left over, and decided to tackle the gas tank, and get rid of what is left of the PO's attempt at cleaning off the old paint. Well I applied the stuff waited about 10 minutes and just started wiping the stuff off, took a sponge sanding block, and a few passes of it and the wire wheel and the thing almost looks good enough to leave as is...LOL

Well not really but, it's lost all of it's paint, most of the rust, and is ready to go to Spyug's place to get a coat of primer, and some fixing of the small dings that are in it....

And as always here are a few pictures of tonight's progress....

Loooooookinnggggggg good lol, shiny, brian

Thanks.....

A little bit of BLING never hurt anyone...LOL

NO, it will not stay that way...

I need to wash out the inside, but not sure with what, gas ? and then do I coat it, it will stay in the house, until it's ready to go out.

Any thoughts ? Anyone....

GK, a mild but effective tank flush is vinegar.
A gallon of vinegar plus how ever much water to fill it up and let it sit for a day. If it is just a cleaning you are after, an occasional slosh will help.
A good rinse with warm water and baking soda or TSP and you should be good.
You can dump the vinegar down the drain and then head to Hutchs' because you will have a hankering for fish and chips.

Thanks....

I just need to wash it out, it's not rusted or anything, just want to get any crap out of it, like the flaky paint from the stripping, and the dust from the sanding. What I don't want to do is introduce and or help the inside to start to rust.

so vinegar, and after baking soda, and I will try to dry as best I can...

Thanks

Fuel Sending Unit

Fuel Sending Unit

Well this is not good.....the fuel sending unit is damaged, it won't give me the amount of fuel in the tank, it gets caught up on the wires that are pulled and stretched so it gets stuck about the half way mark, and it seems the petcock is buggered up as well.....

Not good....

.

Don't you have a spare one ,lol , shouldn't be that hard to find , Brian

Nope no spare, sold the spare bike, Spyug's spare bike did not come with a tank, so now it's time to look and find. If I could I would fix this one, but I don't think it's something I can do, I can still use it to plug the hole, it just won't give me an accurate reading of whats in the tank...

Petcocks are out of stock at this place http://www.siriusconinc.com/ hopefully they will get some in, great price, only 21 bucks, so that is a no brainer

I have my eye's and ear's open.....

.

I will keep a look out as well, Brian

Thanks....

You do know about Nichrome wire? Possible to remove that strip and re-wind it?

For example... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nichrome-re...598?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4acdf11476

I might be able to reuse the existing, it's not broken just messed up, if I can rewind it and rivit it or screw it back together it just might be OK, but not sure how my skills at doing that will be...LOL

Wonder if he has an extra petcock lying around??

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pml/mcy/4338391952.html

I will check out his ad and send him a PM

a little pricy, I can get a petcock here for 21 dollars, and the sending unit is way out of my price range, it's easier to just check more often whats left in the tank...LOL,,,,,and cheaper

fuel sending repair

fuel sending repair

so I took it apart, and tried to rewind the bloody thing, man it's tough, and I did it but not sure if it's OK, do I need the wire closer together, or will this suffice...?

It's small and a pain, I can't see, using a magnifying glass, but still somewhat off....

any thoughts if my attempt will work, or start over and get the wire closer together ? I am left with some left over wire.....LOL
