A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1st day of riding great! 2nd day not so much.

Few weeks ago bought a 1980 850gl. Pics will be coming soon. Was upgrading from my virago 500. Bike wouldn't charge and was leaking gas when i got it. just over 21k and paid 600. Fixed the charging, thanks for those who post the manuels, they were a great help. Fixed the gas leak. Still has some minor issues but they are little fixes along the road. Anyways, i work 60 miles away 50 of which are highway. Road there on a friday for the first time, bike ran great. Took it down to muskegon bike time that night also. Saturday went to leave and got 14 miles from work when all of a sudden the back end stated wobbling back and forth. Yup thats right a flat tire. Wound up having to hitch hike to work. Thankfully a guy stopped and picked me up, only bad part is he is a harly rider. So now among the charging problems and the gas leak now i need a new rear tire. :(

Congrats on your new bike! That's still not too bad for problems based on the age/mileage of the bike. Bummer to get stranded but nice that even a HD guy would help.

Him being a harley rider isnt bad, he wasnt riding though. He was driving a trail blazer. Told me that he rides a harley. I used to work next to a harley shop and am just in no way a fan of them. No disrespect to harley riders, i know a lot of people who do. i just dont like them at all.

Hey, welcome to the nuthouse!:D If you hadn't replaced the old rubber on that bike, now is the time to do it. Tires over 5 years old are dangerous, along with blowouts, the rubber is hardened and has no "stick" value on the road. You'll really appreciate the feel of good tires on the road. You should replace front and rear. Check BassCliff's site for how to read the DOT date codes on the side of the tires.

How is this good samaritan's riding a harley a bad thing?

It's not, I was just trying to have fun making reference to another active thread about HD riders :) It wasn't intended to be a slam, just kinda like a Ford-vs-Chevy or Vikings-vs-Packers comment (although those examples are more obvious what the better choice is.....LOL)

First time threw I thought it was bad cause you had to ride on the back of some guys Harly to work, but if he had the truck not so bad.

Let me guess he had a trailer hitch for his Harly on the truck :D

Anyways he helped and thats what matters.

Now you know why the first thing most people do when the get an old bike is replace the chain, sprockets, tires and cables.

Naahhhh....I like to see how far they go....sprocket teeth til they curl like ocean waves....a chain that goes click, click, clack while moving the bike in the garage, tires that crack like old plaster, and cables that get down to the last strand to nurse along!
