    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So I finally got the GS850G legal today and took it for some shakedown rides. Other than a sticking brake and leaky forks I didn't have much of a problem, but MAN is this thing HOT!! I haven't ridden a bike with a full fairing in years, and for the last four I've been riding a BMW with a sidecar. Doesn't help that it's 90 degrees and humid as hell, but should it feel like I've got two heating pads on extra high strapped to my calves? It's almost to the point of being painfull...
I may have to take the lowers off in the summer.
The bike seems to run out of power above 3/4 throttle so I'm going to re-check the float level this weekend. I also somehow mis measured #4 intake shim- it's tapping pretty good and I will have to fix that too. I have some misc. oil leaks and tuning to do, but the bike runs smooth at speed and handles pretty well, alll things considered.

I generally like the "full dresser" look of most bikes from the period, but man I just gotta strong dislike for the zuki bags of that time. Your bike though shouldn't be excessively hot. I tool around on the bike in 35degree heat and the temperature never reaches 100C on the oil guage unless I am sitting in stop and go traffic for around 20 minutes.
Do the lowers pull the waste air from the engine out into a pocket behind them? Hence the cooking of your legs:-k

I think that's what's happening- the air is channeled directly from the engine to my legs, seems like a bad design for an aftermarket fairing. I don't like the Vetter bags either- I have a nice set of suitcase style cravens I may adapt one of these days.
