2nd Time Out Running Bars

RacingJake

Forum Sage
Ok the first hand full of runs were made without bars. Best ET was 6.95 at 100 mph with a 1.70 60ft, not my best but is was 100 degrees at the track???. This was with 150's jets and the bike seem to run better than using 160's.

So alittle later the bars went on and my best ET was 6.98 with a 1.68ft. I had a 5K chip in the 2-step now and the bike launch great. I did have a few problem trying to keep the bike going straight, one run going to the left and on the next going to the right. I think it was me not having the bike standing up right during launching. There was a few times the bike felt like the back tire was spinning, maybe a hot track??, maybe alittle more power due to the jet changes??. I don't think it was my clutch because it does have new springs and plates. You'll could hear the rpm pickup alittle when it happen. With the old clutch when it slip it just kept going and going higher in the rpm until the rev-limiter kick in. I don't know maybe it was my imagination due to the heat.

Even the sound of the bike through the exhaust had a good lope to it at idle and top end had a higher pitch sound to it with the 150's.

So maybe it was the heat or it was me not being on my game. But one good thing was I did run faster than a GSXR1000 with a 6 inch extended swingarm. The best he could do all night was 6.98.

Next on my list is to go with a 45 rear sprocket for a 3.21 ratio and see what happens next.

Glad you're out and having a good time...I sure miss being at the track!!

Its fun spankin those new sport bikes, aint it?

If anything, the hot track would keep your tire from spinning, so maybe it was the clutch adjustment you mentioned, AND the hot weather in general. The air is not as dense, wait and see what happens the next time you run at night. Thanks for keeping us up to date Jake. My next race is July 17th..

the whelie bars might be too low causing you to spin....also how much air in the tire? i always run like 8lbs with no bar...later, Richie

Sorry for the delay but me & the family spent a few days down in San Antonio doing the River Walk, Sea World and The Cave Without a Name thing.

My wheels were set at 2 inch's and tire presure was at 10psi. The guy on the GSXR commented on how my bike sounded during the burnout. I told him all he needed to do was install a V&H Pro pipe and bang it against the rev-limiter and his bike could sound like me too.

Going back out on Friday and try it again. I think the bike needs a ported head or some Nitrous.

you are running 1160 cc , a slick a wheelie bar and an airshifter? plus a two step and you ran 6:95, a gsxr 1000 with a six inch over swing arm ran 6:98 . I am feeling really good about my first time to the track in six years. my zrx ran 7.004 with nothing but a stap and some old bald guydriving it.

Hey Skip

Old habits are hard to break----right. Glad to see you're at the track again

Don't let that 6.95 get you, I just had a bad night. Withbars I'm down to 6.61 and without them 6.83. I put my 160's back in the carbs now so that 6.95 is a goner.

Who do race with in Texas?? Ya know any crazy 2 stroke racers? Or GS racers?

I hang with a few locals, and a few from the Abilene Hot Bike Club come out to play on the weekend. Haven't seen any two-strokes yet but one dude is building one. We did have a few lawn mowers show up, one has a Honda motorcycle engine and wheelie bars. With a short wheelbase and going over 60 mph it's quite a sight.

Last year we did have one other GS1100E running. I think the fast'est he ran was a 7.20 and mine was 7.18 before any engine mods. Haven't seen him sence, somebody said he broke something and he torn engine apart with no other status. So I'm like the lone wolf out here going up against honda's kaw's and yamaha's and those damn GSXR's.

I'm going to start running in the Quick 16 on Fridays. They pay 300 for 1st and 100 for 2nd and only costs 30 to enter. Good thing about it is you go ahead and qualified first then you pay to run if you are one of the 16.

I see a delay box in the near future.

What is funny is that all the 600 cc bikes at my track are running in the 6.70-6.90 range, the ones that can ride anyway. Street tires, no bars. Just a strap, pipe and sprockets.........

The best I ever got my GS was in the 7.20's @around 102

Those 600's are fast and I think they make about the same horsepower or more compared to the old GS1100's. Around here they run 7.40 to 7.00.

Now if my GS1100 could turn the same RPM's as those 600's i'd be in the 200 horsepower range.

Yeah, same HP, if not more, and a lot less weight!

My GS feels like a tank compared to them..............
