Reciently, while reinstalling the vacume line to the left hand carb I noticed that the vacume port, which consists of a casted elbow, pressed into the carb, rotated as I reinstalled the vacume line. I haven't tried to remove this elbow and before I do I wanted to ask if anyone could recomend anything to reaseal it with once I remove it? I've checked the parts diagram and my manual and it appears as it's not intended to be a removable, servicable part, but could be a source for a vacume leak. Thanks for your help!

I've never seen a "casted elbow" vacuum port. Can you post a photo?

The elbow the black vacume line attaches to, will rotate, front to back and I'm concerned it is a possable source for a leak. Thanks!

If it rotates, I would think that the only way to seal it would be with an
o-ring. That setup is new to me, as well. :-k

I have a 450 and I'll check when I get home, but I don't think mine moves. If is not suppose to I could see it causing a leak. terrylee

That was my thought, but the parts diagram dosen't show it removable, let alone with and o-ring.

Checked mine on the 450, and it does not! move. If your does I say it's broken. Might be able to fix with some jb weld. Could affect the vacuam to petcock? terrylee

I pulled it off. Does anyone know what I might use to seal this pressed in piece? Thanks or your help.

Mine moves too, thats the fuel line for the ON/RES setting right? I did notice my bike runs better on PRIME, maybe its becuase thats loose?

You could try JB Weld or one of those gas tank sealing products.

BTW, have you ever changed the intake boot O-rings on that bike? Looks like the stock phillips screws attaching the boots so looks like no.

The picture I have shown is the vavcume line , which operates the petcock. The petcock on my 1980 450e has no prime function. If you have a prime function and the bike runs (better) with the petcock set there, I suspect there is something wrong. This connection needs to be tight. I'm looking for a recomendation from someone as to what I might use to re-seal this loose elbow vacume connection.

Let me know if you want more of my 2 cents on petcock failure. I've been through it once.

Good catch there! I have the o-rings and have been busy getting the 650 reliable. That done, I'm starting on the 450.

Just reassembled the bike after doing the valves ( holy cr*p!, what a difference) and noticed this elbow was loose. I'm thinking I should tear down the carbs, replace boots and such, and then address this fitting.

JB weld, ya think?

Thanks for posting back.

You could use JB Weld, or 2 part epoxy, just make sure to use a scotch-brite pad or some fine sand paper and clean up both surfaces so you will get best adhesion. Oh, and make sure none of the sanding/cleaning dust gets in there, or is cleaned out nicely.

I would likely stick a q-tip in the hole before sanding the inside of the hole, so when you pull out the q-tip, it cleans the hole for you.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

I have a '81 Gs450T, this part pivots and comes out the same way. The micro fiche doesn't show this as a seperate part from the carb body. I believe this is supposed to be removable because the idle mixture screw is behind this "elbow" and being able to pivot this piece allows access to the screw.

I've pulled mine out and it still rotates freely once I put it back. I haven't had any issue with it this way.
