A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

OK - Perhaps I'm a fool, but I'm not sure I understand what the difficulty is with using a 520 chain. I've read all the posts on the subject, and it seems the general consensus is that as long as you're staying under 100hp, you should be fine with a standard 520 chain.

So, how do I know what I need to order by way of sprockets and spacers for my 750T, and how do I know if the 520 chain I found in my garage will even work?

Help a poor fool...

1) There is no problem using a 520 chain. It will wear out faster than a 530 or 630, assuming equivalent quality levels between the sizes, but that is it. The MotoGP guys race on 520 chain and that is far more abusive than your GS should ever be.

2) Can't help you with spacers, but sprockets just need to fit your bolt pattern for the wheel and the spline pattern for the countershaft. I believe Z1 Enterprises has everything dialled for GS chain conversions. Call them and see what they have to say.

3) Unless you are CERTAIN of what you have for that mystery chain, I would buy a new chain of known origin. Doing all this work just to use a chain you found is a waste of time. Spend a few $$ (not really that much, a high quality chain and sprocket set is worth less than $200 and will last years) and make sure you know what you have.

Well, the chain is brand new, in the box, never opened. Parts Unlimited.

Thanks, I'll give them a call.

520 chains are narrower than 530/630 chains thus your chain/sprockets will wear faster. Regarding using a chain you found in your garage, I suggest you verify whether or not the tensile strength is adequate for use on your bike since not all chains are created equal.

Assuming the chain is strong enough, you just need to come up with some 520 sprockets and an offset spacer for the front sprocket to move it outboard – my understanding is that the stock 630 front sprocket has a shoulder on it that moves the sprocket outboard, and aftermarket sprockets don’t have the shoulder thus the need for a spacer.

FYI, the JT Sprockets website has lots of dimensional information so that may help you locate a sprocket for your bike.

Good luck.

I would go with a 530 setup from Z1 & put your brand new chain on Ebay to try to recoup some costs....

Dan :)

I did a 520 conversion on mine. You'll find that it's a royal PITA to find a 520 rear sprocket that has the correct bolt pattern fit the sprocket carrier for your GS750. They don't exist.

The only reason I went to 520 is because I needed its thinness to provide frame clearance with the 05 GSXR 750 rim/cush drive being used. 520 chain doesn't last as long as 530 and most 520 rear sprockets are aluminum, not steel which makes them wear faster.

I'm with Dan here, sell that 520 chain and call Z1 for a 530 chain conversion.
