630 to 530 chain and sprocket conversion.

You obviously know more about these things than me but I did 50 tooth on both my 1100s and they are pulling exactly the same rpm as before the conversion.

The 18/50 =2.77 gearing is very close to stock as is the 17/48 =2.82 gearing but neither is exactly the same as the stock 15/42 = 2.80 gearing. The reason I prefer the 17t 530 on the front is that it allows for enough clearance around the swingarm and is the same diameter as the 15t in a 630. I know the 16t will clear but I would not go smaller than a 16t on the 530 set up or the chain might just rub the swingarm to much.

thanks for the explanation. I also have 17 on the front. Tell me, what is the performance difference between a 48 & 50 rear sprocket? Thanks again

17/50 =2.94 which is lower than stock gearing. On my GS1150 I like the 16/48 =3.00 but the 17/50 you use is a good combo also better than stock IMO.

Contact Z1 Enterprizes, they have all the info (and parts if you choose to order from them) you need for the conversion.
Ummmmmm did anyone notice the OP lives in West Australia?Z1 great but chains a heavy.I'd think the shipping would be $$$

^^Second that notion. I bought my conversion kit from Rob at Z1 (as well as my V&H/4-1) and was ready to install but sadly, the front sprocket lug would not cooperate.

Thank goodness for friends like Bill. He gave me his 630 (which was in better shape) until I'm able to have that lug removed with an impact gun.

Good luck!

I got over 50K on my original 630, so I put another 630 on. Turning the bolt was impossible, so I used a Motion Pro Clutch tool http://www.motorcycle-superstore.co...0007&creative=6188396989&device=c&matchtype=e that I had to hold the bolt as I took it off and put it back on.

To loosen that nut, before you cut the chain lean over the bike with your right foot on the brake and use a socket and breaker bar to turn it loose. I find it always works.

^^Oh, man! Bill and I tried the breaker bar with the rear brake engaged as well as with a crow-bar inserted between the rear rim...I may have pics somewhere.

My bike is separated from me right now and it will be some time before I head back to Delaware from my current location in Florida.

I found some pics from my time in New Mexico. Bill was holding the tire iron while I turned the breaker bar. He had "a go" at it while I held the tire iron and between the both of us twisting the breaker bar, it bent!

Bill let me have his old 630 chain...which was in WAY better shape than mine!

When we used to race Production Class, no mods other than tires, gearing and shocks were allowed.I switched to a 530 from the 630 and gained 6mph on top end. They thought I was cheating. I just got a set up from Z1,17/50 set up. I may return it for a 52. Stock gearing is good for about 130? With no fairing, its hard to go that fast or find some where to do it.I would rather get there quicker. Good prices fro Z1.There chain is a little heavy, but it is also almost $40-$50 less than the name brand ones. Vortex has a 530 set up.They use an aluminum carrier with a steel "tooth" area.Light, but tougher than aluminum.

Hi,
For those who have problems removing the front sprocket nut I found that using a mallet between the sprocket teeths and the frame to block the sprocket rotation works better than using brakes (no torque will be absorbed by the chain). With a pneumatic torque wrench it just came off very easily once I used this method.

BTW, I have a question, did someone had any problems with a 530 chain? I bought a 530 kit 14-43 and the sprockets are much smaller than stock, my fear is that the chain may touch the swing arm when it get a bit looser.
