    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Shopping for some new pod filters. I did a search of the carb spec thread and couldn't find this data and lots of googling turns up sizes from 46mm to 54mm. Pretty big window. It's currently got K*N pods on it but I want to go to a more standard disposable filter media. I'm not a big K&N fan personally. Even on the same parts website they list multiple different sizes.

Can anyone give me some insight here? I would just measure them but the bike is currently an hour away and no one is there to check for me.

I stopped using K&Ns in my Jeeps when I discovered fine dust down stream of the filter. Many others have found similar. I figured I'd just not use them in an off road application. Then I stumbled across this Nissian/Infinity Owners Club study using some high end equipment and decided K&Ns would never "grace" any of my vehicles again. I don't think they're out there blowing up engines but I think they suck as an airfilter after reviewing that page a few times. So I'd rather just deal with throw away paper elements espeically since this bike doesn't get ridden that often.

Was going to go with some EMGOs but those APEs are nice and really not that pricey when you're talking 4 filters. Are they paper element filters or oiled gauze?

Nessism has frequently said the same thing... The problem is that when they have enough oil on to work well they don't flow better than anything else but generic paper pods are not the answer.

In fuel injected machines they have somewhat of a reputation for gooping up MAF metering wire.

Maybe look at the foam Uni filters. I had a 750 with those on (I never run it with them but previous owner had run it with them for years, his carb settings were somewhat similar to the K&N settings).

I use a Uni on the KLR. The other one well thought of seems to be NoToil.

I do have K&N pods on my Skunk - can't say that I've had problems myself....
