A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

It took a few beers and tears and "I Too" hope for minimal leaks. I believe that the condition of the two mating surfaces has a lot to do with Cheap gaskets working or not. And I spent a bunch of time on preparing the surfaces.

Nice: I for one love the simple, classic lines of the spoke wheel 750's. Probably the best looking GS series in my eyes.

Thank you Big Block. The spokes are a little corroded and the rims have some rust spot issues so I believe I will be putting the mag wheels from my donor GS750 on when it arrives. I've tried the ebay spokes for my Honda XL 350 and they didn't work "Twice". I could just put some Toxic Green spoke covers over the corroded spokes....Not.

My donor was picked up about 265 miles away "one way" and I was happy to get it. 1979 GS750L that someone jacked the wiring a very long time ago and no one could get it to run, Thank Goodness. I needed the center stand/swingarm/ dual disc front end and wheels and ended up with all that and a great engine that ran well, after a couple of tweaks.

I decided to start the full resto tonight and this is what I ended up with after about 4 hours. Much more to come.

Beware of what lies beneath. The underside of both front and rear fenders. The mud dobbers lived well , until Me.

Post number 31 has got me confused, it says "close up of engine before removal". It seems you're say'in you got that eng. that clean, on a 45 yr. old bike without removing it from the frame... Is that what it says?

Yes, That's what it says and yes, I got the engine that clean without removing it, other than the cylinders and head. Now I can do it the right way and make it even better.

Congrats. man, I went back and looked again, just hard to imagine. Keep it up and keep us informed.

Trying to use as little Physical labor as possible to do the engine removal. After the front and back components were removed I needed to tie the frame to the rafters to support it while I let the lift down to remove the jack and blocks.

I then turned it on it's side to remove the frame from the engine. It took very little effort on my part to lift the frame away from the engine. Actually, I dropped the lift down with the frame supported by the rafters, Easy Peasy.
