A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hello everyone. This is my first time posting here. I've been pulling my hair out trying to find out what size hose my 79 GS850 fuel line requires. I work in an auto parts Warehouse that has a full lineup of Gates hoses. I really don't want to spend the $20 to buy the OE part when I could get the stuff for pennies at my job. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all and have a wonderful day!

If you want to find it locally, look at a foreign car dealer, because I'll bet that all of the hoses that you sell are probably in INCH sizes. :-k

The proper size is 7mm, as cowboyup said. 1/4" hose is 6.25mm, 5/16" hose is right at 8mm. And virtually any hose you sell is reinforced to withstand high pressure in a fuel injected engine. All that reinforcement makes it thicker and harder to run where it needs to go.

If it's any consolation, fuel hose part number 09352-70103-00B is only $13.20 from Parts Outlaw. To make things even better, you should know that you get about six feet of hose for that price. One last deal sweetener: when you get to the checkout window, enter the word "BANG" in the promo box, shipping will only be $1.00. :encouragement:

Thank you very much. We do carry metric fuel lines. I'm going to see how thick they are compared to what's on the bike and go from there. I may end up just going to a Suzuki shop and see if they'd be willing to cut me 2 feet of line. If nothing else pans out I will definitely be using the link. They seem to have a lot of other things that I will be needing. Stuff like coil packs, points, brake lines and possibly a caliper rebuild kit. I'm going to check the condition of all those things before I replace them of course. Thank you all again for your assistance in this matter.

My GS850 has been wearing 5/16" line for, oh, about 20 years...

I keep meaning to buy some of the Real Stuff, I really do.

Be conscious of quality if you buy 7mm line. I'm guessing that like most stuff you get what you pay for. I bought some off ebay and it rotted and split in one season. I run only non ethanol premium in my GS850 for octane reasons. It rotted on my Guzzi with ethanol as well (Guzzi is not octane sensitive). So it wasn't a gasoline type thing. I don't remember who made the more expensive stuff I used to replace it, but no problems since.
