Hahaha yeah... 4 weeks I reckon is my deadline... I think if I'm not done by the end of November I won't make it...

That tail piece is looking good! I like that blue, should look real nice once you've got some clear on it and it's all polished up

I/we want to see your beautiful 450 running down the road BEFORE the end of November.

Remember that this is a cheap Krylon paint job build. Limited in color choices.
I was trying to do a crappy job and just cannot bring myself to doing less than something.
The tank was flat black and dented everywhere (still has 2 size able ones), the side covers and tail looked like the surface of the moon.
I was originally just going the flat black route but any idiot can do that.

Well, that would be nice... but won't be able to do tyres and probably the seat cover until after mid-November (monthly pay sucks)... but you never know, if I get everything else ready...

That's looking pretty good for a crappy job! You wouldn't know that tail piece had anything wrong with it now.

What did you use to fill the dents in on the tail piece? Just normal body filler?

And I'm glad you didn't go the flat black either

+1 Flat black would not have done her justice like that blue does... shows thought especially with the stripes! Looking good.

If I knew that I was going to spend this kind of time on it,
I would have just bought some automotive paint and did it right.

Here's what the side cover emblems looked like...

Before polishing with wire wheel...

Slapped it together before the Sun sets.
It might look good from Space but here on Earth it still looks like crap...

Nice looking paint scheme Daniel. Your alot further along than I am. Is that front fender from a 79 1000e. It looks alot like the one I put on my 650 and I've been trying to figure out what it is off of.

Charlie G., it is actually a front fender from an L model. (They ARE only good for parts you know. )
It was the nicest chrome one that I had collecting dust and I want each of my creations to be a little different.
I have several painted E/G type front fenders and most of my GS's are painted.
So, I had to go chrome on this one.
I might change it to match now that I have painted this one.

Because the L model has the leading front axle, you have to notch the front hole a little and drill the rear hole down a little...

Thanks for the picture and reply. That dosen't solve my mystery fender though. Mines positivly an E or G fender.

On the 650, I believe that the chrome fender from an '76-'79 750 is a direct fit.
The 850 and 1000's are too wide at the forks.

What paint did you use for the lettering?

I need to do something with mine yet...

Are you still going to clear coat?

And it looks like your helper is mighty impressed there's another seat to sit on

Finished (for now) emblems...

I use paint sticks. They look like magic markers only contain paint.
I still need to get another black one to finish these as my old one is empty.
Welding supply stores carry them as well as hobby shops.
I even saw some at Walmart in their hobby/crafts area.

I'll keep an eye out for those paint sticks, but alternatively I was thinking touch up pens could do it also... and there's a guy over on the Do the Ton forum who used a syringe to run some paint inside the letters on his tank emblems on his Honda and that turned out pretty well too.

When you said you used a wire wheel, was that to clean the paint out of the textured area? I'm unsure how I can clean up the textured areas on mine inside and between the letters:
