It sounds GREAT! :)
Try putting a little ATF in each cylinder or Marvel Mystery oil and turn it over one or two revolutions by hand to get it distributed evenly. (Plugs out)
Let it sit over-night while the plug holes are covered to keep crap out.
See if that doesn't free up the rings a bit.
Jets and filters will be there Tuesday according to the PO.
That gives you a couple more days to soak those rings.

Woohoo!

What say you about seafoam? I had my stator cover loose and lost about 8oz of oil, so I have room in the crank case....

Speak of stator, battery is reading 13.8v at idle. Going to do the full electrical check tonight, but so far so good.

Sure, throw a 1/4-1/3 of a can of Seafoam into a full 4-5 gallons of premium fuel.

(As he waits to hear that they don't NEED premium fuel)

I just dump a full 15 oz. can of Berryman;s carb and fuel injector cleaner into 4-5 gallons and call it good myself. ($3.00 at MaoMart)

(As he waits to hear that is TOO MUCH to use and other B.S.)
I've been doing the same crap for over thirty years with only POSITIVE RESULTS. ;)

no qualms with seafoam here... i took a syringe and shot 10cc's of it down each of my cylinders (let it soak for a couple days) and went from 75psi up to 130psi. so far its been a vast improvement!

Considering I'll be out of town for a couple of days, I think I'll be doing that.

Way to go:clap: I am sure you have nothing to worry about, a bit of muti to free up the insides an a good bit of riding should have those compression figures right back up there where they belong.
Watching with interest.
If you are cafeing, I would assume the seat is going, damn, I wish I was on your side of the Atlantic, that foam still looks good, I would take it off you in a heartbeat.
Keep the pics and progress coming.

My compression is dead solid, which is why I was confused about all the smoke. Almost wondering if it's more remnants of the exhaust coming out.

I really need to get a pic of my garage floor. I think a good 1/2 pound of stuff came out of the pipes. Oh well, not like I won't have time to clean it.

As far as the seat, I'm sewing a cover and leaving it for now. My girlfriend wants to be able to 2-up it until she's comfortable with how it rides. I'll be selling it though, not going to chop it up.

Mate that sounds great! If your pipes are anything close to as bad as my originals are, that will definitely be the innards of your pipes coming out.

I had to sweep a large pile of rust out of the garage and driveway after I started mine for the first time after the engine rebuild... and all it would do was idle, not rev.

As much of an update as I can muster at this time:

Finished up gauges, re-installed 110 mains, repainted points cover and gas tank after my drop, ordered throttle assembly and brake parts to get it rideable, dropped off wheels today to get 712s, finished $3 seat cover, painted tail and fender; have to repaint since krylon topcoat doesn't play well with rustoleum primer, pulled exhaust to see about yanking the baffles (a chunk broke off and is impeding air flow through the exhaust), and my girl got her license.

Been busy with everything else, only an hour or so a day to mess with the bike.

GS Suzuki are #1 top notch BALL DRAGGERS in shipping parts. Been a week since I ordered and they've "reviewed order" without shipping yet. Should have gone through Ron Ayers; would have had my "caripers" rebuilt by now. Live and learn I guess.

Nice to see you still working along on the bike. I thought I saw you posting it for sale on C-list. Take care.

I did post it, and I took a much needed break and started at square 1. I won't admit my exact mistake, but it was a "duh" moment and now it runs/rides decently. Carbs are going to need some work, and I still have a little electrical gremlin or 2.

First off: Holy crap the brakes on these bikes SUCK!!! Grabbing a fistful of brake on the CBR would put me on my head, on this bike it just slows me down a little. (exaggerate much? Yes I do.) Seriously though, I'll be glad to swap a front end that has radial mount 4 pots.

Secondly: I didn't expect a shaft drive to be that smooth. Wow. Makes a lot of difference when there's no slack to take up.

I still have a lot of work to do on it; routing wires, tuning carbs, fixing a broken shock stud, etc. I did putt around town (no mirrors, signals, or headlight...) and got a lot of looks from people. Glad I stuck with it, but at the same time, I get tired of learning everything the hard way.

I don't have much to compare brakes with. I've only ridden one bike newer than my 82 650g and it was a 2002 Ducati 748. I rode it back from a shop in Medford to Yreka. I can't remember the brakes, but was really impressed with the throttle. To excellerate from the speed limit to 40mph plus in the length of a semi truck spooked me a bit:eek:. Good thing I don't own it.

I like the shaft drive on my 650. I can't wait to see what a 1100g is like.

I've made some dumb mistakes on my bikes and I try to learn from them. If you take apart the handel bar control switches be careful of the little ball bearings and springs. Electrical connections being corroded can cause alot of pain.

So the lady got her liscense...is she riding that little Honda chopper yet?

Gas cap I ordered is way too small, and my battery is charging at 16v at idle. CRAP.

1 step forward and 2 steps back.

Salty Monks twin pot brake mod on my 850 improved it to a two finger stopper, not as good as the rf900 320mm disc setup on my 750 that is a one finger deal. The twinpot is a great bargain too.

I'm going to vacuum bleed the lines and see if I had some air trapped. It's spongy at best. Rear brake is solid though.
