'80 GSX1100 exhaust onto an '80gs1000g

Sixteen valve to an eight valve?
The header spacing is different.

exhaust port spacing is the same. V&H even lists the same Pro comp header for both bikes (with some modification required). The diff is in how the muffler mounts.

I'm talking GS1100E 80-83, GS1150E 85-86 and GS1000E (what ever they are)

Pardon my ignorance, but does this mean it could be modified to fit?
If it is only the muffler mount then i am sure i could fashion something.

All GS1100E's 80-83 use the identical pipe and Muffler mount location; V&H list the exact same street megaphone exhaust for all.

I only have first hand knowedge of the GS1100E's, but 80GS1000 has fit an 89-92 2nd gen GSXR to his 80 GS1000 and I have fit (1s gen)( and understand the same pipe will fit an GS1100ED.

And as said both the GS1000 and GS1100's show the same V&H pro pipe which means the ports are the same and they clear the frame down to the bottom of the engine.

Further from my investigations, as long as the down tubes are all straight and symetrical there are no frame issues. Those pipe seem to be that.

So while it is somewhat of speculation, I'm 99% sure that the header will fit with the ports and frame with no issue. The exact location of the midpipe and the final hanger location on the can are in doubt. I suspect it will not be hard to deal with.

There is a mint 8V 750 pipe in the for sale forum at a similar price to that one. With shipping being only a little more it might be a much better alternative. I think I read it will fit as well the GS1000.

Hope that was not more confusion. While there are variations in pipes I can make any statement with certainty, how ever there is a very high probability those headers should fit fine, and the mid and can you can deal with .

Good luck

Thanks Posplayr,
Postage to Australia could be a killer for me, but definitely worth looking into.
I think i will put a different muffler on the one i posted the link to if i buy it, i also have a guy who will make one for me at a slightly higher cost.
Will see what happens?

I bolted a 4 into 1 pipe, from a "78" GS1000, onto a "80" GS 1100 E. It bolted on, but the megaphone was not snug to the bike. It was appx 4" to 5" out from the right side of the bike & very low to the ground. No room to lean in to a right hand turn at all. This was a very temperary trial, so didn't try any mods.

That's because of the welded tubular steel brackets on the 1000's, that support the mufflers & passenger pegs...the 1100's had cast aluminum bolt-on brackets that were higher. I cut my steel ones off. and used the 1100 aluminum pieces...looks great(IMO), and works fine.

Were you able to keep your center stand?
My position is that i can get this exhaust for short term until i can afford something really nice, or i pay about $600 and get something slightly better, custom made but still only short term, and keep my center stand.

Sorry landshark, we were talking GS 1000 chain drives, you said GS1000G (shaft). As far as keeping centerstands, some pipes do, others don't. I apologise for getting off topic.

I'm still confused if we are talking 1000E or 1000g? :-k
I no nottin about the 1000g
