I'm ready to replace my brake hoses, does anyone have a favorite source?

Apex Brakes. Raymond Chan Email: raymond@apexbrakes.com

Just email him with the year and model of the bike, how many hoses you want, and what color hose and fittings you want. My last set for a '78 GS1000 was $138 shipped for all 4 lines.

I've used them on 7-8 bikes and always got a good price and delivery. Nice product too!

This took some searching because it's listed as GSX. I had previously found some for my Laverda, and the prices are good, $109 plus free shipping for the GS ain't bad at all, IMO. The MogoGPwerks shop is amazing, I may have to go up and have another gander at all the goodies and bikes there.

Looks to me like that is the front brake line kit only. Looks like the complete set is $149, which isn't too bad I guess.

I second Raymond....I have done 5 or 6 of by bikes with his lines....really good product and great prices too!

Heads up, I've ordered two things from Patriot Racing in the last year or so (a valve cover gasket and a set of brakelines for my 650G). For whatever reason, despite being listed as in stock, and despite me knowing my card is functional, both orders were cancelled and refunded within a day of me placing them. The first time I figured I'd ordered something NLA. The second time, I don't know. I got a full refund and haven't followed for a "why", but just be aware what they still sell might be a subset of what they have listed. Or my card is on a blacklist somewhere, though I can't think of any reason why.

You are right, good update. I wanted some hoses for my Laverda, and they are listed, but not available.

One thing I've done in the past when short on $ - looked up the length and fitting type and bought 'standard' EPDM hoses that were for a car. I got a set of 3 of Raybestos rubber hoses once for $30 at Rock Auto, when a set of stainless would have cost over $200 and would need to be custom made. They worked fine. I know they won't last as long, and would not be surprised to know that this shocks and horrifies many (don't save $ when your life depends on it, yada yada). Yes, I know but I don't think I am.

But thinking about it, isn't that material used on the majority of cars and motorcycles, as delivered new? I never had a problem with rubber hoses on any bike that wasn't an old beater, and my bike (and the new ones that had hoses made from it) had good brake feel - yeah, probably not as good as steel braided, but I never had reason to complain. Just sharing a cheapskate idea. I can outfit my Laverda with them for about $40 - and again, I'm in a situation where I can't find what I need and will have to get braided ones made, or make myself. I have actually found ones that are the same length and fitting - 2x that are M10 x 1.0 with one male and one female fitting, and another from the MC that has a banjo plus one male M10 x 1.0. All up it's $40.

Make your own lines. It's easy. Cheap. Fully customizable, for a non stock master and/or handlebars. Parts made in USA as well.

I've done that before with Earls lines. I don't see the metric fittings I need in their catalog. it's AN -3 stuff except one single M10 x 1.0 fitting listed for their speed flex hose. I will give them a call. Hard to imagine they won't have them.

I ended up ordering Galfer lines, I got black lines with silver fittings, I got the front set of three and a rear line also. I mostly ordered them because they are allegedly made in USA. I got them through an ebay seller and it took nearly a month. I'm welding up a 304 stainless steel exhaust for my 69 firebird project and will install the lines when I get it finished this week.

I've used Galfer lines twice, once on my 81 GS1100E, one set on my '78 XS1100E, had good luck with them. Most recently, for my '79 XS1100F, at bwringer's suggestion I drove down with my old lines to Earl's (local in Indianapolis in Speedway). Got three custom braided lines made up with black sheathing, he even perfectly replicated the short section of hard line on the back and everything, for $150 all in. I was floored to be honest.

I'm running Galfer lines on my 2 bikes and I put them on another 2 that I no longer own. Good quality

I got excited when it was nearly 60*F yesterday and today, so I got busy and swapped the brake lines on. They fit OK, the front top line wasn't ideally indexed but I angled the top end out towards the lever and it doesn't look too goofy. It bled out easily with the help of a harbor freight vac pump. The test ride went well, the rear brake is noticeably better.
A kid chasing a frisbee went behind a parked car and I worried that he might continue into my path so the new front pads and rotors got a little more break-in than I planned, but all ended well. The right front turn signal doesn't work now and the bulb is good so I must have jostled a wire in the headlight bucket.
The cooler air is keeping the air-fuel ratios in the 14 and low 15 range so I'm glad that I didn't jet it leaner.

Sorry Rob but the 69 firebird body isn't anything to see yet, at least the top side, it has Art Morrison front and rear frame clips with the frame connectors made by me. The front has C6 corvette front a arms and brakes and the rear is a tri-angulated 4 bar on a 9" housing with a Daytona pinion and an N case with a blueprinted traction lock. Rear brakes are Lincoln discs. Strange coil overs all around. No manual trans unless you count a manual turbo 400 with a gear vendors OD.
My body man was sick of fixing rusty junk so I ordered a new body from real deal steel, I'm hoping for a June delivery.
