Hi ever'body,
I'm new to this forum and this model of bike. I've just been given an '82 GS650GL\\
/. Downside, it doesn't run! The last owner put in the oil filter backwards:shock: and, well the engine fried. Which leads me to a couple of questions:
1) I'd like to keep the VIN # of the original engine. When I purchase the other engine, could I mate the top half of the original crankcase with the rest of the "new" engine without creating a new slough of problems?
2) Anyone know where to obtain a good functioning, reasonably priced engine?
3) While the GL version is classic, I particularly like the GS650G version (e.g., see: http://www.hoohoohoblin.com/SuzukiGS650G.html ). Is replacing the bodywork of the GL w/the G feasable? I suppose if the frames are the same, it would be. If this is feasable, pls disregard #1 above.
4) The mags are really nice. I'd like to put some tubeless tires on these rims. Anyone know if that conversion is possible?
I look forward to riding the GS in whatever form it turns out, and thanks for the help!
